Nintendo 3DS Broke Japanese Sales Records In December

Enterbrain has been tracking sales since 1997, but in the month of December, the 3DS broke all of its records.

It's unclear though as to what record has been broken, exactly. Enterbrain refers to the high number of 3DSs sold as the most single month sales. It could be units sold of anything, or just systems, or just monetary intake, but whatever it is, a lot of people bought the 3DS last month in Japan. The system sold 1,492,931 units, to be more exact.

Second place in December went to the Vita which sold 402,794 units since its release on December 17.

  • I like how the 3ds is doing so well after every one said it would suck. I got one a while back, and I love the thing. Oh, and first. Lets see how fast the guy who changed my original comment can change it into something even more thoughtless and rude.

EDIT: Sorry about the "FIRST" comment, I didn't know that not not only is it looked down upon on a lot of people, but also against the rules in some cases, please disregard my comment above. But still, the guy who changed my original comment is still a nut-less coward who has to mess with people over small things for entertainment.
  • I love mine. Still wating for Kingdom Hearts 3D, though.
  • As for the Vita...... Is it me or is Nintedo always setting some kind of record?
  • I would help them out with there records by buying one but with the battery life I think al wait for the 3ds advanced.

  • poor vita. i had high hopes for you. lower the price and youll do better.

  • WOW that is a lot of systems!

  • I'm glad the 3DS is doing well. I plan on buying one when they come out with a redesign that includes the second analog stick. That bulky attachment they've been showing won't cut it for me. Also, I'm waiting for more games to come out for it.
  • I'm still not giving up my DSi XL for a smaller screen and 3 hours less in battery life.
  • I thought that several articles had been posted about how the 3DS and Vita weren't doing very well in Japan. Regardless, I'm glad to see the 3DS get back on its figurative feet.
  • That's awesome. I wonder what record.

  • So the 3DS went from stock-dropping product, to record breaking item. Nintendo really turned that one around.
  • Good that Nintendo is starting to pick up the pace.

  • Congrats Nintendo. Everyone eats up your handhelds, with good reason of course. I hope to get one very soon.
  • Good to see nice sales from Japan, and for the 3DS for that matter. It's not a horrible system by any means - it's merely lacking more software (games) to back it up.
  • I'm happy about the 3DS and all, but I'm pretty sure we'd like to hear good news about the Vita sometime soon.

  • GO 3DS

and more of my favorite game series on it.

    PS Vita.... Tsk Tsk Tisk...

     Just Sad

  • Im really glad the Nintendo 3DS is doing great.

  • nintendo's handhelds have always been popular, and the fact that is has the graphical capabilities to run games like street fighter, tekken, and kingdom hearts and still have them look goodis an impressive feat

  • Wow thats surprising. Coming from a handheld that had a 70 dollar price drop within a month or so would actually break sales records. ITS A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!!!!

  • It's a great system, and I couldn't be happier about the upswing in sales, and as a proud Ambassador it means more kickass games for me :)
