Dark Souls On PC Sounds Delicious

Dark Souls is a great game. So great, in fact, that it received a Game of the Year nomination from the Game Developers Choice awards. That's why players are perplexed as to why Namco never released a PC version of the game.

Here's where things get interesting. A Namco Europe employee recently suggested on the company's forums that a PC version of Dark Souls is entirely possible...if there's demand for it.

"There is always possibilities to have games adapted on PC and the good news is that Dark Souls is not a 100% typical Console game so the adaptation is possible," Namco said. "Now to make things happen, let's say the demand has to be properly done. Someone to make a successful petition?"

Fans have already started an online petition and gathered over 10,000 signatures in less than a day. Impressive! When asked for additional comments, though, Namco told Rock Paper Shotgun that any talk of a PC port of Dark Souls at this point is purely speculative and that there's no further comment on the matter.

  • If it'd get a PC release, I reckon some modders would find ways to reduce the difficulty of the game. And we all know From Software has a hard-on for extreme difficulty...
  • YES, YES AND YES.... O_O please make it happen! ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)

  • Would be sweet. Might finally try it out then.

  • I would cry if this happened. I only have my laptop with me at school, so I can only play Dark Souls when I go home for holidays. Dark Souls on PC would be AWESOME. Especially since I wouldn't have to deal with as many framerate drops, and switching equipment would be easier. And the mods. *head explodes*

  • I'd happily purchase it again, but I would also rather development time go to either DLC or a sequel.
  • Still can't find a way to enjoy either of the D Souls games for more than a half an hour. I really wish I didn't find them so bland and boring. I was looking forward to a challenge despite frustrations.
  • Here's a video TotalBiscuit put up today that goes into depth on the Dark Souls on PC debate. It's a good watch: www.youtube.com/watch

  • I just have to buy the game again if it came to PC because of the mods that could be made with it.

  • Yes! I'm dying for some hardcore RPG action. As awesome as Skyrim is, it's a little bit too easy and simple.

  • this is neat.

  • Having a PC Version of Dark Souls would be pointless because a lot of people would mod and lower the difficulty thus defeating the purpose of the game in the 1st place. Piracy is another reason but that shouldn't be the main reason, From Software could just do the same thing they did before Dark Souls came out with those high level phantoms.
  • Meh, I don't care either way. I'm on the PS3, so I have it anyway. Cool for them, if they get it. However let's remember it's a "possibility". Remember the "possibility" Skyrim might go to the Wii U. =

  • Well, being someone who recently just bought Dark Souls.. It has to be the best game I've played besides Skyrim but that is because I am a absolute lover of the Elder Scrolls franchise. But Dark Souls is a game I hope is actually ported to PC just so the PC crowd can enjoy this feast of RPG goodness.

  • My only personal worry would be how the multiplayer would retain its integrity and not succumb to mods/hacks/broken characters. Once they find a way to get around any such issues I think its a dead cert that we'll see a PC release.

  • Definitely has to happen, and from what I've read this is a game that would be much more popular among PC gamers anyway...
  • I absolutely love this game and would love to see a PC release of it so as to allow more people to experience it, as it is quite a fun challenge. And speaking of challenge, this game is nowhere near as difficult as people say it is. All you have to do is pay attention. Yes, it does still require gaming competence, but the difficulty is still quite overhyped.
  • That's a very good question.

  • I hope you PC gamers get Dark Souls because it's amazing!

I hope they come out with another one this year!

  • I'm still in progress in Demon's Souls and already own Dark Souls (Christmas) so I would love to see a double pack for content's sake, though I would probably buy it again anyway. PC Advantages: Mouselook Mouse for targeting (accuracy and range) Mouse for aiming bows, crossbows, and spells (great for hitting moving targets) Separate keys for each function Vastly improved textures Mod servers for when FromSoftware shuts down the official ones (Yay GameRanger) The inevitable Co-op mod The awesome First-Person mod The plethora of additional content Mods to reorganize the messages you can leave More messages to leave
