[Update] EA Announces Origin And GameStop Exclusive Items For Mass Effect 3

[Update]

EA just sent out a press release that said there will also be an in-game exclusive item for PC owners who buy the game through EA's Origin digital distribution channel. Here are the details on the item:

AT-12 Raider Shotgun

The AT-12 Raider Shotgun fires a large pellet spread, ensuring maximum coverage for close-range targets. Designed for superior rapid fire, the AT-12 allows for optimal recovery time between shots.

[Original Story]

Customers that pre-order BioWare's long-awaited Mass Effect 3 at GameStop will receive an exclusive assault rifle and armor set.

GameStop issued a press release today detailing the in-game exclusives. Gamers who pre-order Mass Effect 3 with the retailer will receive a code on their receipt that will later be used to redeem the N7 Valkyrie Assault Rifle and the N7 Defender Armor.

Here are the details on both items, per the press release:

N7 Valkyrie Assault Rifle

After the carnage of the Battle of the Citadel, Alliance officers commissioned a new rifle for their ground forces. A variation of the popular Avenger design, the Valkyrie is now standard issue for new recruits. Exceptionally well-crafted, accurate, and packing ample firepower, the rifle is a hot black-market item on the rare occasion it surfaces.

N7 Defender Armor

The Defender Armor is a variation on the N7 Special Forces’ combat gear, built to protect soldiers in long-running engagements where reinforcements may be sparse. When the wearer fires a weapon, the suit's computers divert energy from the main power cell to the gun's kinetic coils, offering an extra punch. The Defender's storage compartments are designed to hold spare thermal clips, while capacitors throughout the armor provide extra power to shields during critical moments in battle. The armor also comes with an injection system built into the suit and neural-linked bio-monitors that help adjust the wearer's breathing rate and adrenaline levels.

  • I pre-ordered the N7 Collector's Edition as soon as it was available, so I'm going to sit back and watch the flame wars.
  • I also pre-ordered the Collector's Edition. Can't wait for this awesome game that's going to out shine all other games!

  • Thankfully anyone who pre-ordered the N7 Collector's Edition is rolled over into this new pre-order content, so there's no need for a flame war

  • Ingame preorder content sucks.
  • just pre-ordered the N7 collector's edition last night.I just cant wait for ME3 to come out ,its by far my most anticipated game of the year.
  • No interest

  • What a lame pre-order bonus.
  • This does sound pretty nice for day one, but I wonder how long this content will stay exclusive. In Mass Effect 2, they eventually released all of the pre-order bonuses as parts of the weapon and armor DLC with the exception of the Collector's Edition armor and assault rifle. Even Gears of War 3 is starting to piece out their numerous pre-order characters through the map pack downloads. I'm all for giving out bonuses, but I always get a little bummed when my seemingly one-of-a-kind item is suddenly public domain. Anyone else feel the same?
  • After playing ME 2 at my cousin's,this game's a must-buy for me.And I believe in Bioware,they'll make good MP.

  • *sigh* Whatever...

  • Still not enthused about the addition of Co-Op to Mass Effect 3. I feel it just detriments the whole game and series. If it ends up deeply affecting the Single-player and sucking, it will be a disaster. However, I still have it pre-ordered and I will be expecting my gear from Gamestop thank you..... :-)
  • It looks like Best Buy also has an exclusive gun as a preorder bonus.  Doesn't look like you get the armor though.

  • Meh this doesn't sound all too exiting. Although I'm still gonna preorder anyways, since it's mass effect we are talking about here.

  • I am so excited for Mass Effect 3

  • Haven't pre-ordered anything from Gamestop in years, won't start now.
  • It's sad to see that people who buy the game will have to make difficult choices whilst people who crack it will get all pre-order bonuses. Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age 1 and 2 prove my point.

Why on earth should I buy a game if stealing it actually gives me more options? This is ridiculous!
  • Any chance we'll see a Mass Effect Collection? If not, I'l settle with/for ME3.

    The weapons sound extremely helpful.

  • ***. I preorderd collectors from gamestop day 1... My shepard is a shotgun guy though

  • Have they announced whether or not it will require Origin?
  • Don't forget the M55 Argus assault rifle too. You get that if you pre-order from any retailer.
