These Are The Most Pirated Games Of 2011

TorrentFreak.com listed its most pirated games of 2011 across PC and consoles. There weren't a whole lot of suprises to be had. Crysis 2 led the way on PCs and Gears of War 3 had the most downloads on the Xbox 360. The PlayStation 3 was not mentioned because apparently the system had, "considerably less downloads."

The biggest surprise was the Wii. Super Mario Galaxy 2 topped the list, but that didn't even release this year, and second place went to Mario Sports Mix, which had more than a million downloads. Skyward Sword didn't even make the top 5. Come on people out there stealing Wii games, you need to get on the ball!

  • So no pS3 this year? Funny, Ironic, bummer, whatever.

  • I wonder how much more money these games would have made if it weren't from these piracy numbers. Im guessing very little. I figure most people that pirate do so to try a game they had little to no intention of buying. I get bothered by companies who claim they lost so many millions that year due to piracy. No...no you didnt. You didnt loose any money. The people pirating those games probably never had any intention of buying it, and no physical copy was stolen therefore you lost nothing. Or at least very little. I have a friend that downloads movies illegally and lots of them. Most of those movies are ones he cant find otherwise and I know of at least three times he downloaded a a movie he liked so much he went out and bought them weeks after. He's got a big movie collection as well. All bought. Id bet everything I had if you found a pirate who pirates lots of games, he'd probably have at least a half decent bought collection of games as well. Its something to consider all around.
  • @ 4scoreand7
You're totally unware of how much it cost to make a video game. How much do you think ten thousend, 1million or maybe even less, No it cost most AAA tiltes 28million dollars. So that mean since publishers are selling games at 30 dollars(30$ to gamestop then gamestop sells those for 60$) you would need at least 1 million copies. look again the jrpg genre is dyeing from low sales xenoblade is one of them so that 950,000 pirated is what it needed to revive the whole jrpg genre. And to add on the more the companies make the more time and money they can invest which in theory leads to better and more games. So yeah you're an idiot a complete one at that.
  • They should put a list of most pirated PSP games. From my friend I know that it is VERY easy to hack a PSP.

  • This is why I support SOPA. People can be selfish and complaining about Facebook and twitter and such, but I would rather see piracy be suppressed and have hard working developers have the money they deserve.
  • This is disgusting.

  • Not saying im into this, but just wanted to point out these numbers are directly proportionality to money they loose. Allot of these people download to try first, and others download multiple times so these numbers are higher then what they would actually be making.
  • What is the point really? If you like the game just buy it.
  • While I would love to see SOPA not pass, I hope there's another bill that takes down the Pirate Bay separately and most of the other big torrents for videogames.

  • People who pirate video games need to get a life. Why do you pirate video games? Don't you know that you'll just get in big trouble at some point in time? Also, it's like GI WANTS Skyward Sword to get a lot of pirated downloads.

  • do gameboy emulated games count as pirated games

  • I knew that people liked the Wii! It's just that they are ashamed to show that they do.

  • Lol...I thought no one played COD on PC anymore because of it selling only 200,000 copies on PC. But apparently the other 4 million downloaded it illegally. :P But look at those losses, less than 1 million on the most pirated console game and over 4 million on average for a major Pc release. That's why developers don't like making games for PC anymore...:( Why are gamers so f**king cheap? Go get a job and maybe they could afford one game legally.
  • And that's just from torrent freak...
  • So Sony is the only company capable of keeping piracy under control?
  • *looks at PC numbers*  o.O

Uh... how many "legit" titles of those games were sold on PC?

I suppose I can understand better why most game publishers have concentrated more on games for consoles in the past decade or so.

  • "4. Lego Pirates of the Caribbean (870,000)"

    Piracy of the Carri-Wii-an?
  • This is why I hate people who think it is okay to pirate games. "Blah blah corporations, we deserve it free and they don't deserve money." These people are the ones who put out the games we play. This is just a top game list, it's not mentioning the probably hundreds of other titles that came out this year. If you include how long piracy has been rampant at this rate I would not be surprised if the total would exceed a billion downloads. Losses of this magnitude cost people jobs and cause the developers that you love to go out of business. Grow the hell up up and buy your own games you *** selfish dicks.
  • No pirated ps3 games? Surprising considering we got hacked a few months back.
  • sad stuff. except for the wii games, i could care less about those
