These Are The Most Pirated Games Of 2011

TorrentFreak.com listed its most pirated games of 2011 across PC and consoles. There weren't a whole lot of suprises to be had. Crysis 2 led the way on PCs and Gears of War 3 had the most downloads on the Xbox 360. The PlayStation 3 was not mentioned because apparently the system had, "considerably less downloads."

The biggest surprise was the Wii. Super Mario Galaxy 2 topped the list, but that didn't even release this year, and second place went to Mario Sports Mix, which had more than a million downloads. Skyward Sword didn't even make the top 5. Come on people out there stealing Wii games, you need to get on the ball!

  • Imagine if all those downloads were paid for. Studios would have a nice amount of money to make more great games for all of us. If you love gaming, pay for the games and support the developers. or one day we might all wake up and have no games to play at all.
  • Of course Crysis 2 is on the list. Crytek really screwed up by allowing their multiplayer to work on pirated copies. LOL noob mistake. What is this the 90s?
  • I'm surprised that crysis 2 did better than MW3
  • They sure know how to pick'em. Anyways people shouldn't pirate games, or anything, piracy just sucks.
  • Here is my rule on torrents and emulators: only if the game is a)extremely rare/ expensive (example: MGS Game Boy, Shadow Hearts) or b) not available for retail in America (Mother 3, Pandora's Tower).
  • TIL you can pirate Wii games.
  • People who pirate games shouldnt even call themselves real gamers. Real Gamers care about all the hard work and dedication that goes into each game in our beloved industry.
  • Zelda wasnt on there because people that actually LIKE the game enough buy it...
  • If you pirate video games you might consider pirating sharp, rusty instruments as well. Then you can take those sharp, rusty instruments and jam them in your eye sockets for being a parasite to the gaming community and a poor human being in general.

But foe the sake of doing something constructive, here's a video that I really hope can change the opinions of some people.

  • And this is why developers are no longer putting in the effort for PC gamers :/ can't say I blame them, such a shame.
  • I like how the top-pirated games are still some of the best-selling games. They make more than enough from legit sales that they don't need to be complaining so much about piracy. Not that I'm a pirate or anything. I've built up my library on all my systems through legitimate purchases because I am able to. I've got a good job, so I can buy what I want. I understand some people pirating because they can't actually purchase a game. If they can't (or sometimes won't) buy it outright in the first place, it shouldn't be counted as a loss of profit. People who just do it because they can, regardless of income should cut it out. If you have the means, do it. If you think a game isn't worth the initial price, wait for it to drop.
  • Didn't Witcher II get pirated like 5 million or something? How did it not make the PC list?

  • Nice to see that Skyrim isn't on this list, would have expected to see it on here. fair play to everyone who didn't torrent it :)
  • Gamers are cheap dicks
  • Well, there you go. Each PC game has enough pirated versions by itself to make the game very successful. This is why PC gaming is dying. 4 million illegal downloads, how many retail copies sold?

Losing nearly a million sales on the console releases is pretty bad too. There's more than enough copies there to make or break a studio.

On the bright side, these are all popular games so they got a ton of sales and aren't being too negatively affected. It would be worse if a studio got shut down because 90% of it's sales were pirated. Still, pirates were only cool hundreds of years ago and even then, they were missing teeth and limbs. Don't be like them!
  • My friend pirates games and it drives me insane that I still pay the sixty bucks for the same game.I hate pirates.
  • My computer is old, I don't have a 360, I buy Wii games because I am a proud Nintendo Club member, and I just never got around to PS3. Sorry Piracy, not convinced

  • No one wants to pirate zelda, no one would do such a thing. huhuh, pirate zelda. That was in windwaker :D
  • hey deadmonicus u know what at least in my country studios sell thegames to shops and then either they get bought or not the profit goes to the shop ...
