What Are Your 2012 New Year's Video Game Resolutions?

2011 is mere hours from being a distant memory as 2012 overtakes the previous year in what will undoubtedly be a violent altercation. The new year means resolutions, and while I have some not so important throw-away ones like eat healthier and learn how to do a back flip, I also have some important video game ones that I will write on a big dry-erase board and hang above my TV.

My biggest one, is to try to step out of my comfort zone. I like shooters, platformers and action games, but I have never liked strategy games, and I tend to avoid turn-based RPGs. This year, I will try to experiment in those genres more so that I can get closer to becoming a video game expert and offer you guys better, more rounded opinions.

I also want to get all the achievements in Dead Space 2... maybe. The only one I have left is beating the game on the hardest difficulty, and that's scarier than any of monsters that tried to sever my limbs in my first few playthroughs.

What about you? When it comes to video games, what will you do differently in 2012, if anything?

  • run from commitment and get a WiiU and get a job that pays more than my current one so i can buy more games, also not die in demon/dark souls
  • My New Year's resolution is to not let my backlog control me, like this year.

    And start running, or something.
  • Join the dark bother hood
  • I hated RPG's until Skyrim, so my new year's resolution is to play more RPG's. The first on my list? Reckoning (with the stupid main title)
  • I want to give up video games. To pursue my true calling, painting.
  • Dive into my backlog and play some classics while playing the new games. Oh, and getting the new handhelds.

  • My resolution is to play less Minecraft and dust off my consoles! I built a gaming PC and found myself playing PC versions over console releases too....

  • Become a Pokemon master.
  • Going to try to pick up more original games and less established IPs. I almost passed on Dead Island this year and it ended up being my favorite co-op experience of the year, so I'm going to go out of my comfort zone and check into games I might normally let slip under the radar.
  • I would like to finish every game I start, but theres always one game that I can never seem to stick with for the long run....
  • Video game career wise, I'm going to try to get an at least semi-successful job in video game journalism. Video game...game wise, I want to complete some classics I never got around to: Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI (III), and Xenogears to name a few.
  • Stay Healthy, Play Video Games, and Hope my girlfriend accepts my Proposal. P.S. Im nervous as ***.
    UPDATE: She said YES!!!
  • Platinum more games, and play more RPGs.

  • Play less Cod, More other games like I started near 2011's end, get a PS3, sell my wii, continue to play xbox, keep up hope for kinect games, oh and play some basketball/run/paint.

  • My resolution is to at the very least attempt to play every first party Nintendo game released for the 3DS this year, and to hit 1000 hours in Skyrim, I'm already 1/5 of the way there...

  • Make a schedule to progress in all my games,

  • beat the crap out of disgaea 1 and 2

  • You know, I can't really think of much I'll do differently. Maybe start paying more attention to XBLA and Indie games. In the past, I've never payed much attention to them, but I'm becoming increasingly aware of the gems that can be found there. Especially when I want to play more platformers and such.

As great as it is that video games have become capable of realism and mature narratives, I'm getting a little tired of the fact that nearly every single triple-A title (outside of the Wii, of course) goes in that direction. Once in awhile, I want something different, and it seems that XBLA and Indie games are where I can find that.
  • I want to complete more games in 2012. I'm trying to break my completionist habits and move on quicker. After all there are so many great games to play, but with my limited time we'll see how well it works.
