Author Publishes Book That Uses Zelda As A Means To Discover Christianity

The new book by author Jonny Walls seeks to expose non-Christian gamers to the concepts of the Christian religion, and non-gamer Christians to one of the best video games of all time.

It seems as though Walls isn't looking to convince anyone that Zelda is a retelling of Christian theology, which was my first assumption, but rather an attempt to bring together two worlds that don't normally get along, religion and video games. Walls is clearly a fan of Zelda saying in an interview with Gray Matter Books, "The Legend of Zelda is the Beatles of video games. I wasn't just playing a game – I was living out an ancient mythology... discovering lost lands, solving riddles, avoiding traps and wiping out evil. I had no idea a game was capable of such potency."

It's an odd premise for a book, but Walls seems determined to alleviate some of the stigma that Christian leaders tend to associate with video games, which sounds good to me.

  • The picture is covering the article.

  • lolwut picture covers text

  • So Ganon is like Jesus right? He keeps dying and coming back and wants to lead people to his perfect world?
  • Thats some creative indoctrination.
  • Lawl, GI, just stoking those flames, eh?
  • This is the best article ever! lol

  • Staring into Zelda's enticing pixelated eyes for the first time was certainly a religious experience for me...
  • By the title of the article, I assumed that it was going to be about a nut that was trying to form connections that do not exist, but after reading the article, it seems genuinely interesting. I'm a Christian, but I don't think that we should be trying to put Christianity into everything, just like I wish the government wasn't trying to take Christianity out of everything.
  • Incoming flame war; all this article needs is a "first" post >.<
  • Well... this is, interesting I guess. I do see an incoming religious/atheist flame war as a result.
  • Oh jeebus. This makes ME want to sue this guy... for something? I'm opposed to the idea of correlating Zelda with ANY religious philosophy. It's a game, please leave it at that.

EDIT: I think i'll write a sequel to this particular book and have it correlate with Satan! jk lolz
  • Ohhh I get it now. Tri-force. Trinity. Why didn't I see this before.
  • its gonna start a ton of flame wars
  • What's the point in taking things from a fictional world and compare them to mythology?
  • I always thought zelda deserved its own religion
  • Further proof that you can take anything and bend it to have a message that you want. If I start seeing books using Twilight as a means to show how to have a happy marriage, then I know the world is coming to an end.
  • keep your god out of my games and ill keep my science out of your indoctrinated children's heads kapeesh!
  • Now I see it! ^-\\
  • I don't get it...
  • i don't quite understand this but i doubt this will be well received on both ends, not to be a jerk
