Nintendo Is Planning A Robust App Store For The Wii U

According to thedaily.com, Nintendo is planning to have an app store for the Wii U that will have software beyond the normal offerings of what is currently available on the Wii and the 3DS.

The digital store on the 3DS does currently offer a few things outside of games like Mario themed calculators, and alarm clocks, but apparently the Wii U will offer far more. It makes sense that Nintendo would be interested in expanding the software of the Wii U consider its controller has more capabilities beyond that of just gaming.

  • VEEEERRY INTERESTING!!

  • That's great to hear. I hope it works out well. I'm still planning on picking up the Wii U on launch :]
  • ANGRY BIRDS!!!!!
  • AWESOME! But just don't make a Nintendo Tablet iPad ripoff thing.
  • good

  • Welcome Nintendo, again, to the party!! Your about 4-5 years late, but at least you made it! :)
  • apps like on xbox 360 or apps like on ipad? hopefully somewhere in between, this could turn out great.

  • I'm torn about the Wii U. An HD Legend of Zelda, Metroid, or Super Smash Bros. would be incredible, but I'm unsure exactly how future-minded the system is. It seems early for the next generation to release, and Nintendo might miss out on some technological advances that would give the next Microsoft and Sony system an edge. Also, the name is ridiculous.
  • Really excited for this new console. Will be my first Nintendo purchase since Gameboy Color!

  • Hopefully most of the apps will be games, and not a bunch of stores with only merchandise to sell. I miss the good ol' Nintendo days of yesteryear. I do hope they get it right this time(keeping 3rd party support and all).

  • Hopefully this means that there will be an internal hard drive and HD remakes of classic games I DON'T WANT LAZY PORTS.
  • I'll believe it when I see it.
  • Im interested if it allows anybody to create apps. If it's like the app store this just might be the greatest move nintendo has ever made capturing the tablet and core audience. I just hope you can access it without turning on the tv itself but streaming everything to the tablet. Great idea indeed, anyone else's thoughts?
  • Theyll just end up making apps or games from like the gameboy and stuff most likely theyll never come out with a whole new title just remakes and making sequels to already good games like zelda.

  • should we assume that they infact will have decent online then?

  • Wouldn't a dedicated App store make more sense on the 3DS since its portable.

  • and.... surprise it will use EA's origin! (j/k) i seriously hope it will not. I'd like to see Steam on it though.
  • Looking forward to Nintendo's typical, aggressively overpriced ports of stuff you can find for far cheaper on iTunes, the Android app store, and even the PS Minis!
  • well why not? that touchpad seems suited to a bunch of apps. it makes perfect sense if you ask me. hopefully, the apps dont suck

  • Without a multi-touch screen it would be utterly pointless. Sorry Nintendo, your upgrading very well console side, but you need to upgrade the touch screen technology your using. It's outdated. If your trying to compete with Apple and Google, a multi-touch screen is needed.
