The lights are on
A few years ago, I threw away a few bucks on horse armor in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and ended up feeling guilty about it. Imagine how you'd feel if you spent $16,000 on a virtual item? This is exactly what a man in China did to secure a one-of-a-kind sword for the upcoming MMORPG Age of Wulin.
Snail Games, the developer of the game and host of the online auction, also sold a sheath (yes, a SHEATH) for the Hook of Departure for $1,600 and another sheath for the Lordly Spear for $2,500. The sword sale was commemorated with a nice plaque.
I just have to wonder: What if this game ends up sucking? Can he use the sword from the outset, or is it a high level item? Will it always be powerful? We'll find out soon enough, as Snail Games plans to hold the Chinese open beta next spring. An English version is also planned and should begin testing shortly after the Chinese beta kicks off.
For this man's sake, I hope he loves the game, and he and his sword go on to happily slay thousands of dudes.

Considering I've never even heard of this game or the production company before this article....I hope it tanks as hard as APB. LOL
The sale was probably staged for publicity. That silly-high bid is the only reason I watched the game trailer.
I'm not gonna lie.. The game looks pretty *** cool actually from the trailer. And obviously this guy must have money to burn so whatever. Hope he enjoys it lol
If you have ever bought avatar items, but think this is stupid. Your nothing but a hypocrite.
Also, people spend thousands in that Second Life game or whatever.
People spending loads of money on meaningless things is nothing new.
That is one rich virgin
He seems like one that spend $1000 on farm cash a month
hopefully he's rich enough that it won't ruin his life or anything, and the money will help the developer to make the game even better.
otherwise yeah, this is pretty stupid
That guy was either really drunk, excited, or stupid. Hopefully he didn't waste enough money to backfire and that the sword gets him to a high level.
I find it hard to justify spending a couple bucks on a virtual item, let alone spending 16000 for a new fangled sword... just plain stupid
Wow, this game looks incredibly lame...
Overall Comments: The guy is an idiot...anyone who thinks otherwise is the same
That brings retarded to a whole new level.......
with money comes boredom. stay middle class. more fun. work hard play hard.
Unless I hear a very, very good reason for this, the "man in China" will be dubbed "No-life".
There are far less expensive ways to show the world you're a ***.
