Holiday Warrior 12/23/11

by Ben Reeves on Dec 23, 2011 at 01:00 PM

If you thought that the holidays were just about sugarplums, candy canes, and yelling at your family, you were wrong. They’re about, Force Lightening, Dragonborn, and limbless platformers. At lest that’s what our holidays are all about.

Tim Turi: This holiday break is a doozie. I hit a snag in both Skyrim and Skyward Sword. It’s a little thing called Star Wars: The Old Republic. I promised myself that I would finish Link’s adventure over break, but I also want to dig back into Bethesda’s masterpiece. And, at the same time, the only thing I really want to do is play ToR. What is a guy to do? Play games, I guess. I also plan on playing hockey, rock climbing, and skiing. Yay!

Jeff Marchiafava: This is the point of the season I’ve been waiting for: a full week to sit at home and play video games. Skyrim will be high on the list: I’ve already put 60 hours into the game, but stopped playing when Bethesda’s updates started breaking things. With those problems (re)fixed (knock on wood), I look forward to continuing my adventure. I also plan to put in some multiplayer time with Tim in MW 3 and Battlefield 3, and will almost certainly been spending some time in LittleBigPlanet 2 with my family, and Saints Row: The Third – cuz I don’t want my break to be too classy.

Matt Bertz: I'll be away from my console in San Francisco over the holiday weekend, so the majority of my gaming time will be spent checking out titles for my new iPad. First up on the list is Grand Theft Auto III, one of my favorite games of all time. I also want to give Contre Jour a longer look; the iPhone screen felt too cramped to me, so I'm hoping the extra real estate helps with the controls.

Andrew Reiner: Starting today and running through the remainder of the year, I'm going to do my best "Dude" impersonation, which is basically wearing a robe, pajamas, and drinking White Russians instead of orange juice. Go ahead and judge me. I'm on holiday break and I've earned the right to be a lazy bum. So, for the next week, you'll see me on Star Wars: The Old Republic for a good 12 to 14 hours a day. I'm also going to finish LA Noire…finally. That really is all I plan to do for the next week and a half. Have a great holiday, everyone! I hope to see you on TOR (I'm on Hyperspace Cannon, playing an Imperial Bounty Hunter).

Matthew Kato: I'm going to be playing lots of Skyrim (both making my way through the main quest and just messing around), as well as Assassin's Creed Revelations. I also think I'm going to download the Mass Effect 2 DLC: Arrival. Who knows where that will take me – I might download a bunch more ME 2 DLC if I'm in the mood.

Bryan Vore: I just picked up El Shaddai and Rayman Origins for a really great deal. I’m also looking to get into Battlefield 3 and the career mode of Fight Night Champion. There could also be a few gamer days with some friends to play around with a few co-op titles. I just hope I don’t get caught up with too much other stuff and can get in at least a few solid game days.

Joe Juba: I managed to finish most of must-play games from the holiday season (and even one review for early 2012), so I think it's time to tackle the last one on my list: Skyward Sword. I probably won't get through the whole thing over our holiday hiatus, but I hope to at least get through the hours of tutorials that are bound to comprise the first several hours. If things get too serious, I'll just plug in some Saints Row: The Third.

Kyle Hilliard: I’ll still be doing some work during the holiday break, but it’s work involving the PlayStation Vita, so I can’t complain much. I’ll get to catch up on some games I missed earlier this year (Deus Ex) and play some new ones that I haven’t technically missed yet (PlayStation Vita), and hang out with the wife and baby as much as possible. I also plan on getting some IHOP at some point.
