The lights are on
Update 2: A GameStop representative has sent along the company's explanation of why those who pre-ordered The Last Guardian received a bogus call saying the game had been canceled.
The statement reads: "The Last Guardian has not been canceled by Sony as we incorrectly stated in an automated call to reservation customers. Because the game did not have a specific release date, GameStop made the decision to remove the game from our system. The Last Guardian will be reinstated for pre-order when a firm launch date is known."
So, it's as we originally speculated. Thankfully. We just hope that in the future, fans of other often-delayed or not-soon-releasing titles don't receive the same heart attack-inducing phone call regarding their much-awaited game.
Update: According to Sony Computer Entertainment's Alex Armour, GameStop doesn't know what it's talking about. His words couldn't be more specific about The Last Guardian cancelation: "That's not true. It's not canceled," he says. The reasons for the GameStop de-listing remain vague. We'll follow up if we hear anything.
Original Story: It was bad enough when news broke that creator Fumito Ueda was leaving The Last Guardian studio Team Ico, but has the game been canceled altogether?
Game Informer associate editor Kyle Hilliard received an automated message from retailer GameStop, where he had placed a pre-order for the PlayStation 3 title. It told him that his pre-order of the game had been canceled because "the vendor has canceled production of the game..." Here is a transcript of the entire message he received:
"Hello, this is GameStop calling with important news regarding your reservation. We've been notified by the vendor that The Last Guardian has been canceled. To reserve a different title or have your reservation money refunded, please go to your local store."To repeat, we've been notified that the vendor has canceled production of the game The Last Guardian. If you have any questions please call your local store. Thank you. Goodbye."
Although it's possible that the retailer is simply taking the game off its books for the time being until a more firm release date is announced, it could also be a sign that the game is simply gone.
Game Informer is contacting publisher Sony to receive more info on this story, and we'll update you whenever we have more news.

for all the confusion unfortunate happenings surrounding it I sure hope this game is worth the craziness
Wow, I'm a little surprised so many people believed this was true.
that would've sucked if it had been cancelled, I did want to play it. but the longer I wait the more uninterested i become.
It would surely be great if The Last Guardian wasn't cancelled, but I'm not holding my breath. Sometimes, where there's smoke there's fire, and we haven't heard or seen anything from The Last Guardian in months. Often, whispers of a game's cancellation turn out to be true, and the game's publisher is just waiting to issue a press release to officially announce this.
the game looks amazing glad its still on
THANK GOD. I really want to see how this game comes out, despite all the dev and publisher drama...
I'm also not surprised if Gamestop was wrong, honestly.
What a scare. I woke up to the same message and had to pick my jaw up off the floor. Thanks Gamestop...
Good thing it's not canceled. That would have really been a shame.
Don't you ever *** do something like that to us EVER again!!
I'm glad it;s not canceled. I am looking forward to this game.
What upsets me is that a simple mistake or misunderstanding has likely led some people to believe the game was cancelled. They are spreading word of this new bit of information they think they know, and now there's this general belief growing that the game was already cancelled. Not everyone refreshes this website hourly.
Obviously not GI's fault though, it's news and they reported it. Good journalism.
Sony has been in all kinds of financial trouble as of late but i will weap bitter tears of sweet sorrow if this game never sees the light of day
GameStop is a joke.... Tell your Owners to stop being so *** cheap and actually give us our money's worth for trade-ins...
Perhaps this is a sign of The Last Guardian going to digital release only?
Think about it. It would explain the GameStop cancellation calls and Sony's claim that the game is still coming. Also, eliminating the physical retail channel lowers overhead. No discs, no printing, no street dates, no shipping, no middle men.
It's not verified, of course, but the reasoning makes sense.
Please say it ain't so...if I could only play 1 game 4 the rest of my life Last Guardian would b it.
So glad this game is not cancelled. (Note the double "L")
