Skyrim Conspiracy Theory: Insects Point Toward Armageddon

We've talked endlessly about how amazingly massive the world of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is, but do you need more evidence? Alright. Skyrim is so big that it has its own crackpot, end-of-days conspiracy theorists!

This whole hunt started innocently enough when a Reddit user noticed that the various insect-carrying jars that you can pick up in Skyrim have runes carved into their lids. In a series of investigations that my mind can barely comprehend, runes were translated, other hints were dug up, and the lore of Elder Scrolls was scoured, eventually leading one fan to create this map:

AHA! It all makes sense now, right? No? As best I can understand, the runes point toward five towns that form a pentagram that itself points the way to a ritual that could wipe humans off the face of the planet. I don't completely follow the thread of logic behind this insanity, but feel free to read the thread on Reddit and try to for yourself.

The craziest part of all? Bethesda is just brilliant/insane enough that I could totally buy that they hid this incredibly obscure stuff in here assuming that the equally brilliant/insane fans would dig it up.

[Thanks to @AfflictedFox for the tip]

  • That's one thing to do in Skyrim, I guess. I'll just stick to doing quests and killing dragons, but I'm glad this guy got into it. Who knows, maybe this is the plot of the next Elder Scrolls game!
  • Hell yea! This is my News Tip!

Edit: I read through the thread. Some people think it points towards Thalmor DLC in which you will be defending the world against them. Some people think that it points towards a transformation ritual in which you can turn yourself into a dragon.
  • It's amazing what developers can do with stuff like this
  • im going to that location on the map and waiting untill frostfall 12 4E 212 (december the twelvth for those who dont have the skyrim calendar known)
  • That is the coolest thing I've heard all month. I bet that guy smoked a ton of PCP before he solved this conundrum.
  • ummmm...wut?
  • The mount of content that is still being found in this game is amazing...

  • Ha-ha! Geometry saves the day again! Suck it, ignorants.

  • Cool, but some people are way to obsessed with Skyrim (not theres anything wrong with that).
  • lol! look what its filed under! tinfoil hat!
  • I always picked up those jars, but I really never paid attention to them. That'll teach me!
  • See guys? All those "bugs" you were complaining about were actually just signs of the apocalypse! It all makes sense now!
  • Future DLC? Something to do with the Mythic Dawn cult maybe? Trying to mass summon Mehrunes Dagon to destroy the world again?
  • It's a conspiracy man!

  • Dragons have returned to Skyrim. But the bees will be our undoing.
  • Insects in jars being tied to the end of the world? (Calls M Night Shyamalan)
  • wow sounds a lot like the main plot in Fullmetal Alchemist
  • WOW! I haven't even found a bug in a jar yet...not to mention any signs of a skyrim apocalypse.
  • Makes perfect sense.

  • Mother of god.... A transmutation circle!!
