The lights are on
The Australian Government Classification Board has refused rating on EA's Syndicate title, effectively banning it from sale in the country.
In a report, the Board said:
The game contains violence that is high in impact and is therefore unsuitable for persons aged 18 years to play. Combatants take locational damage and can be explicitly dismembered, decapitated, or bisected by the force of the gunfire. The depictions are accompanied by copious bloodspray and injuries are shown realistically and with detail. Flesh and bone are often exposed while arterial sprays of blood continue to spirt [sic] from wounds at regular intervals.
Currently, Australia has no rating for games beyond the MA15+ designation – effectively banning some mature games from sale. An 18+ rating has been proposed, but not yet passed.

Seriously? It just makes me want this game more. Bones exposed? AWESOME!
After reading this I only want the game more
Sounds like i would love this game. And also if they're banning this did they ban both dead spaces also because the game is about dismemberment and there is an awful lot of blood in that too.
Man, they won't let people in Australia have any fun.
Wow, so both America and Australia are turning into a mix between Soviet Russia and China, what is this world coming to?
The Australian Government board is stupid. SOME people over 18 play games down there, and they shouldn't have to suffer down there because of these idiots who think violent games like this will 'poison' the youth around the world
This has just sparked my curosity. Bad press is great marketing.
Hey Australia, how many other games are exactly like this? Let your people game.
Im still surprised how anti-violence they are for being a country founded by British criminals
Oh lord. Australia gets to decide how mature it's fully grown adults are now? Now that's a government that needs to be taken down.
Pretty much sounds like the best game ever made.
"explicitly dismembered, decapitated, or bisected by the force of the gunfire"
"Flesh and bone are often exposed while arterial sprays of blood continue to spirt [sic] from wounds at regular intervals."
I feel so sorry for australian gamers. This game looks really good, as do others that have been banned.
Remind me to never move to Australia. They ban too many games.
i've come the the conclusion once again that i'm happy i'm not from australia
From the sounds of it this game will be awesome! lol
aside from the whole "peoples arms getting blown off by gunfire realistically" thing (isn't that an oxymoron?) this sounds even more violent than the darkness (the game starbreeze also made, which was also pretty violent) so, um, as an american who has been completely desensitized to this sort of violence, I'd say Australia's made a pretty good case for my day one purchase, I was gonna buy it anyways since I love starbreeze, but this just sweetens the deal
Australia banning M-rated games? Shocker.
