Sony Sued For Anti-Lawsuit Update

This past September, Sony updated its Terms of Service agreement for PlayStation Network that would forbid anyone from filing a class action lawsuit against the company. That hasn’t stopped someone from trying.

As reported by GameSpot, a class action lawsuit was filed last month against Sony for the update saying it forced consumers to give up their rights to file a lawsuit or give up signing online to PlayStation Network. The suit claims Sony did not make the updated changes visible enough in the Terms of Service and did not post a version online.

Sony did allow users to opt out of the agreement, but the suit notes they had to send in a written letter within 30 days.

Sony has yet to offer comment on this lawsuit.

  • Is this likely to fail.

Well if it goes against certain rights sony may be in a hell lot of beating but i think they beat one lawsuit like this before.
  • ANTI
  • Hahaha! Someone is suing Sony because they got 'forced' not to sue them? I think that's stupid.
  • It sucks that this is the state of our society. That everyone's first response is to sue for anything they could possibly sue for.
  • lol, I was wondering why Sony filed a lawsuit versus an Ant for a while there.  I first read the headline and thought, "wow!  and they say Americans are litigious..."

  • Sony is lame. Actually, Sony, EA, Microsoft, and Activision are a 10 one the lame scale.
  • I hate it when I get Ant Lawsuits on my hands!
  • So, they're suing because they aren't allowed to sue. My impulsive part of my brain says that less lawsuits are good, and whoever is suing Sony over this are annoying idiots trying to make some easy cash, and should therefore be ignored the tantrum-throwing toddlers they are. Does this thought seem too harsh?
  • I hope the person suing takes an arrow to the knee -_-
  • At first I thought it was talking about The Last of Us video with the ant in it! yeah its dumb, I know. XD
Edit: It said ant before they fixed it....so..yeah
  • Ant-man was very angry over that Terms of Service update!
  • -.-
  • Maybe it's just me, but I saw video game sites lit up with news on this part of the user agreement before it was even out. All you had to do was either research a little (or be aware of any video game news site) and you would have known about it before you signed. Even if I'm wrong, Sony said what was in the user agreement after it was released as well.
  • Who the hell actually reads the Terms and Services I mean really are you going to sit there for all of that legal mubo jumbo or are you just going to skip it and say ok and sign up?
  • One of the few valid suits out there, I think. They should be allowed to be sued.

However the question of whether any other suit against them is good or not remains up in the air.

  • IRONY

  • Didnt Microsoft just do the same anti-lawsuit thing in their latest update too. WTF!!!
  • Good!! They are trying to create a system of zero accountability, this is a counter democratic idea promoted by corporations. They have access to millions of member bank accounts, they should absolutely be responsible for that information and be accountable if they are not. End of line!
  • lmao
  • Kinda hope they win the lawsuit
