PlayStation Vita Week One Sales Results

Sony's newest handheld got off to a decent start in Japan where it sold 321,407 units in its first two days.

The sales number comes courtesy of Japan's retail tracker Enterbrain via Famitsu. First week sales account just for December 17 and 18. Sony said it shipped 500,000 Vitas in Japan for launch, though other reports claim the company made available an additional 200,000 units. That number hasn't been confirmed.

For comparison, the first two days of sales for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan totaled 371,326 units while just one day for PSP hit 166,074 units.

The PlayStation Vita releases on February 22, 2012 in North America and Europe.

  • Let's hope that, unlike the PSP, the Vita actually has a steady stream of quality releases. The PSP has got to be the highest selling system with the fewest released games ever.
  • Wow, that's pretty good.
Here's hoping that the life of the Vita is as good as I think it will be. ^_^
  • still sucks I can only have one account.

  • I like what Vita has to offer but .... what I don't like is that there is no video out. Let's say I go in my vacation and I want to play on my hotel room on the TV, these no way for me to hook up the PSVITA to the TV. That will ne nice to have the option were you hook up the Vita to the TV and you get the display on to the the TV and you use the Vita as the console/controller.
  • Here's hoping for another system to have successful sales and be a part of the industry's past, future, and present. I wish you the best of luck, Sony.
  • So is it good?
  • That's 321,407 more than the 360. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcYppAs6ZdI
  • If people keep purchasing the vita, more developers will most likely jump onboard, so I hope the sales numbers keep climbing steadily.

  • This is awesome!!! Can't wait for the vita!!!

  • Not a failure, but not terribly impressive, either... when you consider that a platform with fewer games available at launch (and less impressive under the hood) in the 3DS outdid it by about 50K. Solid, but unspectacular.
  • Seeing how close each system sold, i say one is not better than the other. Its just preference... or one's rich parents

  • so what do you guys think? will it make it or has it signed the extiction button for future handhelds?
  • I really want to get this, but the software lineup is like 3DS bad
  • I find it interesting that the sales here are described as "decent", while the 3DS launch was branded a failure, yet sold ~50,000 more units.
  • Oh so America doesn't have this yet... I was getting sad.

  • Target recently (and still may) had a deal for 3DS's going for 150 and buy one get another half off.. So, I basically paid 225 dollars and got two of 'em. However, I'm keeping them in the box for as long as possible just incase they announce a re-modeled version of it here soon. I wonder if anyone has heard anything specific in this regard? That all being said, the Vita looks pretty *** sexy too. THAT also being said, I felt the same way for the PSP and was extremely let down over the years..

  • I like when he says "decent start" xD
  • Why must we wait so long! Oh well, I probably wouldn't be able to afford it anyways right now, and at least the bugs can be ironed out in Japan before they get here.

  • Still thinking about buying this come February. But glad to see it's selling well!
