Skyrim Ships 10 Million Worldwide

Bethesda has just announced that worldwide shipments of its epic The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim have passed an impressive benchmark.

In a press release released today, the company broke the news. On a worldwide basis, Skyrim has now shipped over 10 million copies, generating around $650 million in retail sales. In North America, the PC version of Skyrim outsold all other PC games three-to-one.

In addition, Valve has announced that Skyrim is the fastest-selling title in the history of its Steam digital distribution platform. Raptr, a service which tracks the gaming habits of players worldwide, has dubbed Skyrim the most-played game of 2011.

Throw in over 200 perfect review scores (though it fell short of that score in Game Informer) and a Game of the Year nod from the Spike Video Game Awards, and this reporter can come to only one conclusion: People really like Skyrim. You read it here first.

  • Wow what an achievement. I'm happy for them.

  • Imagine all those hours played.
  • Although im sure they are working hard to fix it, there is simply no excuse for what they did with the PS3 version.
  • I wish IU had that amount of money

  • GOTY "Glitches Of The Year"
  • Fantastic, truly a game that deserves every sale it makes, despite the bugs it encounters. I guess we can also see that The Elder Scrolls is now a more popular series than Bethesda's approach to Fallout. At least for the time being until Fallout 4 comes out. Probably won't happen till next generation of hardware though considering Bethesda was actually planning on waiting for next gen to do Skyrim originally. And as always, I'm extremely excited for the future of the RPG market for next year with Skyrim reigniting the interest.
  • At my church we had the secret Shepard program, where presents are donated to less fortunate children. One guy brought in an Xbox 360 packed in with Skyrim. I have a feeling that kid will have the best Christmas ever.
  • Never heard of Skyim... Yeah. I'm being THAT guy. :P
  • In related news, Morrowind fanboys everywhere have been recalled due to a manufacturing error that causes them to explode when they find out Bethesda still isn't going back to the "three characters with an encyclopedia of dialogue and the rest are scarecrows, having a chance to miss someone I just stabbed in the head, more skills than would actually be required in real life" format.
  • Glad it's doing so well

  • Reiner would have given it a 10 if he played it on PC.
  • Bethesda succeeds.

  • That is a lot of money.

  • Wow ...... skyrim is my favorite game of 2011. it beats dead island, mw3,bf3 , crysis 2 and all my other games this year. i think this also is my favorite game of all time
  • None of this includes the Steam sales, I'm assuming... Buying it on Steam was perfect; no need to worry about patches.
  • YES!!!! it deserves it

  • Awesome thing to happen to an awesome game.

  • What a great achievement. Patch 1.3 is making the game as smooth as butter.
