APB Rebounding Nicely

Publisher GamersFirst announced APB Reloaded has surpassed 3 million registered users after becoming available through Steam earlier this month. This is a major comeback for a game that was once killed off four months after its release last year. K2 Network purchased APB soon after its collapse and relaunched the title as APB Reloaded in 2011 as a free-to-play game through its Gamersfirst portal.

"We recognized the potential for APB Reloaded to be a true breakout hit in the Free2Play category all through beta testing,” said Rahul Sandil, SVP of marketing and business development for GamersFirst.  “We quickly amassed a vocal, dedicated community, and they’ve been instrumental in growing the game and helping better the experience.

"We also attracted a partner in [a]list games, a digital game market maker who launched a worldwide campaign to raise the game’s visibility and help it appeal to a broader audience. Ultimately, players who discover a new free game decide if there’s enough value and quality to keep playing, and APB Reloaded’s trajectory tells us a growing number are being blown away by what they’re getting.”

APB Reloaded is also coming to retail. A boxed version of the game will soon be hitting Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy and GameStop stores across North America. It will cost $29.99 and include "more than $50 worth of value including unique in-game items."

  • If anyone is interested, the Trenches comic today (Trenches is a new comic from the guys behind PvP and Penny Arcade, at trenchescomic.com) has a guy from Realtime Worlds mentioning how the closure went for the employees.

    Spoiler: Not great.

  • Glad to see this game is getting a good reboot and people are playing it. I plan to check it out sometime
  • Was always interested in APB just wish it was on consoles
  • how can a free to play game have a retail copy available? the game is *** free.
  • I wonder if my laptop can handle this game...

  • It's good to see that APB can get back on its feet after it's extremely lackluster first appearance. I'm glad dead games can be picked back up by people who are interested in them, such as Sly Cooper, ME: Rising, and a few more that are out there. It kinda lets the dream live on, which makes me happy.

  • thtas not a bad value for the game i might get it wen it comes to retail.
  • Frankly, this story is the only reason I think FFXIV has a chance. Glad to see APB has bounced back.

  • i'm glad their doing well, this is the first MMO i enjoy playing regularly.
  • APB can bounce back within months... what happened to Hellgate London after it's F2P reboot? Haven't heard anything about it from you guys in ages.
  • You can thank Tobuscus for some of those users.
  • Apparently I can't play this game because my video card says so...

  • It deserves it

  • Protip: Game still sucks.
  • Oh wow. I heard the character creation and customization is pretty sick.  Funny things though, is that I didn't even know they were planning on reviving it. Might give it a shot.

  • Does this game still run like *** and require a *** ton of ram and graphics ram?
  •  Hope they jigger this thing up for Macs or consoles eventually.  I'm anxious to try that character creator.

  • I'll try this as soon as I get back home tomorrow night. It'll have to do a lot to detach me from Skyrim.

  • *** didnt realize it was on steam, preloading it now
