The lights are on
Update: Sony's silence on the rumors regarding The Last Guardian creator Fumito Ueda's employment status with developer Team Ico was conspicuous, but now the company has come clean.
Gamasutra reports that it has received an official statement from Sony confirming Ueda's departure from the developer and the project. However, Sony also says that he is finishing his work on the game as a contractor and is "committed to completing" it – confirming the initial rumor.
Last week there was also a report that executive producer Yoshifusa Hayama had left Team Ico.
No official release date has been given for the title.
Update: Last week it was reported that Fumito Ueda, the creator of The Last Guardian, was finishing the game on a freelance capacity and that he had left Sony. Although we're no closer to the truth, Ueda has addressed the situation himself.
Ueda has recently tweeted in Japanese: "Recently, I have been getting a lot of questions…don’t worry, as usual, I’m still working hard on The Last Guardian." It's certainly not as in-depth of an update as we were hoping for, but on the bright side: At least half of the original rumor is true, and Ueda isn't totally abandoning the promising project.
Sony still has not officially commented on Ueda's status.
Original Story: Fumito Ueda, creator of ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, and the still-unreleased The Last Guardian, has reportedly left Sony.
According to sources speaking to Eurogamer, Ueda is currently finishing The Last Guardian in a freelance capacity. The unconfirmed report cites Ueda's exit as one of the reasons the game continues to remain unfinished. It says Ueda will begin work on "person projects" once The Last Guardian is complete.
The long-awaited PlayStation 3 exclusive was originally scheduled to ship this holiday, but Sony delayed the title until 2012.
A Sony spokesperson told Game Informer the company does not comment on rumor or speculation.
This game looks amazing.
This game almost seems like an illusion. I sure hope it dosen't get postponed again, or canceled or something of the sort...
I actually bought a PS3 for this game when I saw the E3 video a few years ago. At least it was a bargain for the bluray player and the few games I've used it for.
I recently beat the hd version of ico & am now playing shadow of the colossus. Ico was ok but shadow is truly a ps2 classic. Seriously this game is better than all the new games that I've played this year. I hope the last guardian comes out sooner than later because if shadow is any indication of the kind game we can expect then team ico will surely have another classic on they're hands.
This game is the only reason I haven't sold my ps3 to get money towards a PC yet. I don't know how much longer I can wait before I explode!
The best exclusive games are on PS3
Well, that's still good to hear that he is still working hard to finish the game.
This and FF Versus XIII were the two biggest reasons I bought a PS3. *** this generation.
When are we going to get our hands on it?!
I'm starting to feel that this game might be having some development issues. Let's hope the quality of the finished product isn't effected.
I feel like its one of those games with will be in development for years and then when its released, it will suck. Or it will get shelved in the middle of development.
At least he is sticking with The Last Guardian and not abandoning it, but I want it to be released already! :D
I dont kno wht to say here..lol..is this a gud thing or is this gonna end up ruining the game...only time will tell !
This sucks :(
