Sony's "Other OS" Class Action Lawsuit Dismissed
A PlayStation 3 update in April 2010 removed the ability to load other operating systems like Linux on the system. Shortly thereafter, California's Anthony Ventura filed a class action lawsuit against Sony citing breach of contract among other claims. In September of that year, Sony filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit and after all this time the company got its wish.
U.S. District judge Richard Seeborg dismissed all of the counts except one, a Computer Fraud and Abuse Act claim that wasn't sufficiently presented.
"As a matter of providing customer satisfaction and building loyalty, it may have been questionable," Seeborg writes in his ruling. "As a legal matter, however, plaintiffs have failed to allege facts or to articulate a theory on which Sony may be held liable."
Looks like Linux and PS3 fans will have to give up hope that these two things will team up again (officially, anyway).
