Joker Creator Jerry Robinson Dies At 89

Batman has enjoyed a healthy resurgence over the past few years, with Christopher Nolan's cinematic reboot and the critically acclaimed series of games from Rocksteady. Of course, a hero is only as good as his arch enemy, and the Joker has proven to be one of the most memorable foils in any medium since he arrived in Gotham City in 1940. The character won character of the year recognition at last night's VGA awards, for his appearance in Batman: Arkham City. Sadly one of the Joker's creators, artist Jerry Robinson, passed away in his sleep this past Wednesday.

In addition to helping to create the Joker and Batman's faithful sidekick, Robin, Robinson later worked to help Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster win back rights to their iconic character. Robinson is survived by his wife, two children, and two grandchildren.

    He is a legend. I give him, and his family, my condolences. But, on a happier note, it would be awesome if GI did a magazine article, just like the one about the father of gaming magazines.

    R.I.P Mr. Robinson. Condolences to your family, you truely created one of the most memorable and awesome villans to ever bless comic books. Thank you for pouring your creative talent into your character so that we may many years later accept him for the serial killing prince of clowns he is. Thank you, you will be missed.

    R.I.P. Mr. Robinson. Wow, along with Hamill's retirement, Ledger's death, and a certain event in Arkham City, this has been quite a string of unexpected events.

    He will surely be missed. The only greater comic book hero/villain creator in my opinion is Stan Lee, for which I will cry manly tears when he passes.

    ROBINson helped make ROBIN. Hmm, I just got that. Anyway, Joker is by far the coolest villain in the history of anything, so rest easy dude.
