Tony Hawk Announcement Is...Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD

Tony Hawk pulled a cute little trick the other day, tweeting that he had an announcement to make today, which is not-so-coincidentally when the VGA awards are being handed out. Well, now we know a bit more about what exactly he was getting at.

To our relief, it's an HD remix of the first few Tony Hawk games, called Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD. The fine folks at Joystiq spoke to the skateboarding legend on the red carpet this evening, and Mr. Hawk provided a few fresh details. Think of it as a greatest hits package, with some of the more memorable levels from the first two games, including the school and downhill levels. It's planned to be released digitally sometime in the first half of 2012.

Thankfully it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the ill-fated board peripherals. The fact that it's sticking to the series' roots is just about the best possible news. As it turns out, those games were kind of incredible. Now we just need to be sure that Primus, The Dead Kennedys, and Goldfinger are all on board for the soundtrack. Memories...
