The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was the most played game in 2011, according to a report from Raptr, a popular stat tracking service.

The company released its year-end awards today with many of this year's big titles coming out on top. Raptr's awards were based on data from gamer behavior and activities, including average individual playtime, average session length and total playtime share. Below are just some of the award winners. The recipients of Raptr’s “Most Played Awards of 2011” are as follows:

•    Most Played Game – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
•    Most Played Shooter – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
•    Most Played RPG – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
•    Most Played Open-World Game – Batman: Arkham City
•    Most Played Sports Game – FIFA Soccer 12
•    Most Played Social Game – The Sims Social
•    Most Played New IP – L.A. Noire
•    Most Successful Paid to Free-to-Play Game – DC Universe Online
 
Highlights from the report include:

•    Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 earned double the amount of playtime in its opening month than Battlefield 3 did in its opening month.

•    The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim dominated the RPG category with six times more total playtime than the closest competitor, Dragon Age 2.

•    DC Universe Online experienced a 2500% increase in total playtime per day after switching from a subscription business model to free-to-play.

•    The Sims Social accumulated more total playtime in its opening month than all other social games released in 2011 in their respective opening months.

    How is Batman the most played open-world game if Skyrim is an open-world game and that's the most played out of the whole year?

    Wow. It's hard to believe that Modern Warfare 3 didn't take the top spot. Grats to Bethesda.

    Makes sense to me, almost EVERY gamer I know bought Skyrim, or at least wanted it. Though if it's only Raptr keeping track, I wonder what the numbers for people who don't use Raptr are. I assume only hardcore gamers use Raptr, so I'm curious about what casual gamers are playing, and how much.

    I could see that, just because of the sheer size of Skyrim. You don't even have to finish it all to put in more hours than most other games this year. Hell, you can't finish it all. This is especially impressive if you consider that it's a single-player game that has hardly been out a month, AND this only counts people who were online while they were playing.

    I would have guessed all of those categories, even the sports one only because of the Xbox Live numbers released for last month. I'm not surprised Skyrim is on top because I spent about 100 hours playing in the first month. And that's only because I had to share the game. :P

    Isn't Skyrim Open World? I'm confused about that one, but I'm kinda glad MW3 doesn't have the spot :P For all the tlc and effort Bethesda put into that game, they deserve it. (cautiously puts on flame suit)

    BF3 is a better game than MW3. Mw3 is just lucky that it has so manny fans and people didnt bought BF3.

    I don't know and really don't care at all. Why is everyone arguing over Batman and Skyrim and the whole open world business vs RPG? My god some users are just annoying and simply can't admit that Batman was a spuerior game. It is a better game. Skyrim isn't doing it for me anymore. I got bored and returned back my used copy and got all my money back. Money worth retrieving back.

    This seems od tho, it this just for games released this year? for me it seems like black ops would be played alot more then anyother game. but i guess its new releases.

    This is stupid, 2011 isn't over yet. I also hate to say it, but I doubt this is true. I am willing to bet MW3 is the most played.

    Surprised FIFA Soccer is most played sports game. Interesting.
