Developer Mojang today revealed it's working directly with the LEGO Group to bring out an official Minecraft LEGO set.

"It’s clear to us that there are many creative people with good ideas for this and we want to throw our own hat into the ring and start this project to bring the best LEGO Minecraft builders together," the studio said on the official LEGO CUUSOO website, where users can submit ideas for LEGO sets.

"Minecraft is about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine in the virtual world. You can build anything you imagine with LEGO bricks in the physical world. Minecraft and LEGO were meant to be together."

Mojang said it's invited several LEGO fans behind the various LEGO Minecraft projects to collaborate with the team on ideas. Additionally, the developer will agree to donate 1% royalty from LEGO CUUSOO to charity.

i thought that minecraft was virtual legos except with zombies, spiders, skeletons, tall shadow people, and green expolding penises.

Should be done in DUPLO or PRIMO... LEGO are needlessly too small, for any sort of recreation purposes.

Two problems I see here. First, What exactly is a Minecraft Lego set? Isn't Minecraft basically just a game about building? Which is what Legos already are? So, what's going to be different in this set, that wouldn't be in an assorted set? Second, that single dirt block is made up of probably hundreds of Lego pieces. Who is going to want to put that kind of work into building a single block?
