Blog Herding: Community Edition 12/01/11

As expected with any long holiday weekend, the blogging community output was a bit lower than usual this week. But that doesn't mean there weren't some exceptional blogs posted for your reading pleasure. The blogs included here represent some of the finest from your fellow Game Informer readers.

Community Blogs:

You Spoiled Me!
This blog by moderator Supersnake discusses the challenges of not being exposed to revealing information for games you're waiting to play. No games were spoiled in the posting of this blog.

Five Questions A Non-Gamer Should Never Ask A Gamer
Chances are you've had a non-gamer ask you a question about video games that prove there is such a thing as a dumb question. This clever post by Jack, The Quixotic Gamer touches on a few of them.

My 13 Most Anticipated Games Of 2012
As the year winds down and we enjoy the many wonderful releases, is it too early to look at what awaits in 2012? Vurtax doesn't think so as he provides his list of games he's excited for. Maybe you are too?

Multiplayer Camping: Tactical Or Cowardly?
The age-old and often controversial topic of camping is not a particularly new subject, but this post by J. Swigart stirs the waters with the community as he discusses whether it's acceptable or cowardly.

"Video Games" Are Obsolete
Are games like Portal and Bioshock considered shooters? Is it even appropriate to call them games? This interesting read by Shootist2600 questions how games have evolved and if our labels are keeping up.

The Elder Scrolls 6: What I Want
As is often the case, a new game is released that turns the community upside down, but after it's out for a while, chinks in the armor are exposed. Samurai Zero talks about his issues with Skyrim and how he would like to see them addressed in the next Elder Scrolls game.

Are Video Games Associated With Problem Behaviors?
Whether you agree with the content or not, Logan Hess's blog about the relationship between video games and behavioral issues is receiving a fair amount of attention from the community and worth a look if you haven't seen it. Read and post your thoughts on the matter.

Fantasy Football For Gamers
When I saw fantasy football in the title of this blog I almost dismissed it, but this lighthearted post by Noobtubin8er recruits video game characters for his ideal football team lineup. It's rather humorous.

Notable Reviews:

The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim
No doubt you've heard of Skyrim and how well it is doing. This short but articulate review by Echelon XII covers the basics and justifies the 9.75 score he awarded the game.

Requiescat In Pace
Perhaps one of the most thorough reviews you'll ever read, Craigaleg examines Ubisoft's latest (and last?) installment in the Assassin's Creed series with this top notch review of AC: Revelations.

Feel The Rage
Maybe not the game everybody was hoping it would be, thatfoxguy provides a solid review of Rage, which might help with your decision of whether to play it or not.

Community Podcasts:

Robot Reveals! Batman: Arkham City
Listen to Rob Kehoe, aka Warbuff, share his personal experiences while providing some valuable insight into working in the video game industry as a contract video game tester. For the rest of the show, the hosts reveal their crime fighting exploits in Arkham City.

Don't forget to send your feedback, recommendations and community events in to my personal Game Informer account located here to ensure this feature continues to provide the content you're eager to read.

Saint, you forgot to include me in the Community blog section. I posted a blog on the 22nd: http://www.gameinformer.com/blogs/members/b/lmvalle_blog/archive/2011/11/22/my-complete-list-of-picks-and-predictions-for-the-spike-2011-vga-39-s.aspx
  • Do a barrel roll should be the next quote!

  • hey i made the friendly blogging community this time. I'm moving up on GIO.
  • "USE BOMBS WISELY!" - Peppy Hare

    Great work as always, Saint.

  • Yay!

  • Jeez, for my little side-blog to be featured with these amazing ones is an honor. Everyone else herded this week has some great posts and I learned quite a bit from them this week.

Thanks for keeping this up Saint.

  • Member Herded and Blog Herded in two days. Keep it up Saint and I might start to think I'm a half decent writer. Congrats to everyone else. The reviews were really good and the blogs were all quite interesting.

  • As always, thank you Saint. But I do have a question

What was it about it that stood out? Considering all the countdown blogs that are on this site what about mine you felt worthy of being herded?

Not questioning your judgement of course, that'd be dumb considering it's my own blog but I am curious.

Maybe someday you will pick my blogs Saint. Someday when I write one that is!

Awesome work everybody, hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving!

@Zen SPLOG Assassin LEVON - I know, right...and not just because he's a moderator, but because that was a great blog.

@Mr. Charmander - Hah Hah...yeah. I always yelled back, "You think I'm not trying!?!"

@Zen SPLOG Assassin LEVON - I keep trying to prove to you all I'm not perfect. See, I told you. Seriously though, there are always explanations why this happens with the most likely cause being I screwed up. But sometimes, it's for other reasons.

For example, right now...if you were to go look at page 2 of the blogs around this time:

You would see nothing else shows up after that because some formatting error in that blog has truncated everything else below it. Now, every day, and I do mean every day...I cut and paste the above information for every blog that is posted into a text document. The last entry I have before the above blog is one of mine:

Skyrim Brings Out the Good And Evil In Gamers (Part 2 of 2)…

Anything that was posted between Nov 29, 2011 at 10:48 PM and Nov 30, 2011 at 03:23 AM, I have no record of. I'm not saying that's what happened to yours...but I can't go back and check it because of this issue.

So, whatever caused that to happen...my sincerest apologies. The alternative would be not to include the names and numbers of who contributed, but I think the community would rather have the occasional hiccup and have the information available.

@wayoverdue - Hah! Good one...but I use a different game every time. Or at least I have so far.

@durararaGO95 - yay! Hope you're enjoying the site and community.

@Jack, The Quixotic Gamer - Thanks!

    @benderstrike64 - Times two!

@Noobtubin8er - Hah...that was great stuff! Like I said...I almost just glanced over it, but then I was like...oh wait...his team is made up of video game characters...very nice! You're certainly welcome.

@Samurai Zero - Be careful though...hard to be popular and a ninja. By the way...I messaged you my little proposition.

@Vurtax - A question?!? I didn't come prepared...okay, shoot. You'd be surprised at everything I take into consideration when picking blogs. I once read a totally awesome blog that I thoroughly enjoyed, but the person's profile image was rather...vulgar. I couldn't pick the blog knowing that everyone who clicked on the link would be subjected to that image. Whether the staff would mind or not, I dunno, but I didn't feel right picking it. I feel like I have to be extremely selective since the staff is entrusting me to do this. So yes, there have been similarly themed blogs before, but yours was picked because of the quality and approach you took with it. You picked a perfect blend of games and you provided thoughtful commentary why you were excited about it and concerned about it; and that was a great approach that I thought the community would appreciate as much as I did. Hope this answers your question. That'll be .05 please.

@mojomonkey12 - HEY! Quit peeking at my draft for next week's blog.

The site thought my comments were spam so they wouldn't post earlier. LOL. I know some people take issue with what I say, but boy I think I should be offended! Anyway, I'm humbled, Saint. Thanks for considering my blog among such quality posts. And great job as usual!
