The lights are on
Starting next month, Verizon FiOS customers can download an app on the Xbox 360 and watch live streaming channels without the need for a set-top box.
The offer is available to customers who are Xbox Live Gold members and who subscribe to both FiOS TV and Internet service. 26 select FiOS TV channels will initially be available, depending on the customer's TV package. Kinect voice and gesture commands are also being integrated.
"Joining forces with Microsoft and Xbox, we are breaking the boundaries between TV and gaming, and furthering the borderless lifestyle Verizon customers enjoy with our new offers and services," said Eric Bruno, vice president of consumer and mass business product management for Verizon.
Customers who order FiOS TV and Internet service will receive Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary and a 12-month Xbox Live Gold membership. You can check the availability of FiOS in your area here.
I hate reading about all these new spiffy internet providers and their services. There is no infrastructure for fiber in Las Vegas (where I live) and no one seems interested in changing that right now. It's either Cox (Cable), CenturyLink (DSL), or Clear Wireless (which is pretty terrible from what I've read). Cox is okay, but the speed varies too much, and it usually goes down several times a year for inexplicable reasons. CenturyLink is even worse, though. We have them at work and I've not been impressed. We're always having problems with our internet at my work. Better options than "okay" and "terrible" would be nice...
Verizon and microsoft interesting but I already have it and I ain't getting no free membership and game
This sounds like an amazing idea, sadly I don't have Fios. :(
Word from the wise: Verizon FiOS has hidden fees. If you do not tell them to discontinue a trial station, they will charge you as if you ordered it. They even charge you for stations you did not order.
Will they also have this deal with comcast?
i wish fios was in my area... i hate comcast with a passion.
haha, i just switched to veriozon fios like three weeks ago.
I had FiOS
then I moved
no more FiOS where I live now
And Microsoft pulls this little addition now
I'm just a King of wonderful timings
It's pretty good that Microsoft are on intent on making a true home entertainment system. And it's a good thing that they aren't charging more than their LIVE subscriptions.
...And what about the PS3?
What they need is an XBox level subscription for FIOS for the channels that are offered over the XBox rather than having to buy a full TV and phone package.
Oooh that's cool! :)
