First Skyrim Patch Details

Bethesda has released details on the first major performance patch for The Elder Scolls V: Skyrim.

As noted on the Bethesda blog, patch v1.2 improves a number of issues, including the texture loading problem plaguing Xbox 360 versions and the PlayStation 3 bug that would cause the game to chug as your save file grew.

The patch is currently available for PlayStation 3 owners in Europe and should be hitting North America soon. The update is planned to go live on Xbox 360 and PC on November 30.

Below is the list of fixes being implemented in this patch for all versions unless otherwise noted:

  • Improved occasional performance issues resulting from long term play (PlayStation 3)
  • Fixed issue where textures would not properly upgrade when installed to drive (Xbox 360)
  • Fixed crash on startup when audio is set to sample rate other than 44100Hz (PC)
  • Fixed issue where projectiles did not properly fade away
  • Fixed occasional issue where a guest would arrive to the player’s wedding dead
  • Dragon corpses now clean up properly
  • Fixed rare issue where dragons would not attack
  • Fixed rare NPC sleeping animation bug
  • Fixed rare issue with dead corpses being cleared up prematurely
  • Skeleton Key will now work properly if player has no lockpicks in their inventory
  • Fixed rare issue with renaming enchanted weapons and armor
  • Fixed rare issue with dragons not properly giving souls after death
  • ESC button can now be used to exit menus (PC)
  • Fixed occasional mouse sensitivity issues (PC)

  • Thank goodness. I haven't been able to get a dragon soul in a while.
  • Good that they're fixing the framerate issue on PS3, it's getting to the point where I have to quit every hour and delete my auxiliary saves. The game gets so bogged down it's almost unplayable. Love the game.
  • Not all the fixes though, they never do the full list as it is always too long. Anyone hear of that group trying to ban Skyrim in the U.S.? They said they were trolling but now many believe them. Proof they were trolling SkyRim is made by Blizzard, so either they are trolling or stupid, and yes I said SkyRim.
  • I'm glad they patched up quite a few things, but it's annoying that they're not dealing with some of the major graphics and performance issues, especially on PC. And where are those high resolution textures that we were promised?
  • Lydia showed up at my wedding as a corpse.
  • Guests would show up to a wedding dead?? Hahaha that's actually pretty cool...
  • Yay! Patches! The dragon's not attacking may be the only one I've encountered so far. The wedding guest one sounds funny though, and not going to lie I might rather keep that.
  • "Improved occasional performance issues resulting from long term play (PlayStation 3)" The "save file is greater then 6MB so you get a frame rate drop" problem falls under this, right?

  • Oh thank you! I've wanted to install Skyrim to my xbox since I got it.
  • Now fix the part where you traveling buddies are dumbing than *** and keep getting lost. lol I've had to go back multiple times to find them somewhere in the area/dungeon I'm in just sitting there and not moving lol. Come on, I need my cannon fodder while I kill that *** dragon priest Rahgot!
  • Too frequently I would see a dragon in my general area, even flying over me, but otherwise completely ignoring me and not attacking. Kind of annoying. Glad they fixed that and the 360 texture install issues. :D
  • What does it mean by "dragon corpses now clean up properly?" Will they not ragdoll as soon as they die? And for anyone that hasn't, cast raise dead on a dead dragon. It's hilarious.
  • The problem I have been encountering is my companions constantly getting lost. That one is now getting on my nerves.
  • Good that the patch will take the console versions from "unplayable" to just "bad".
  • There's a pretty serious bug where the college of Winterhold questline is completely blocked off if a dragon appears during the first quest where you get the tour of the college. I'd REALLY love a fix for that one...
  • does anyone know where the menu to see how many hours i have played is located?
  • What about the glitch where you can't interact with NPC's? It's broken a few too many quests for my taste. I can usually fix it by reloading from my last save but still...

  • I hope you flying up a mile when you're hit by a dragon. It's funny at first but gets annoying
  • Improved occasional performance issues resulting from long term play (PlayStation 3) I hope so. My frame rate is so bad now that i literally can't play the game. :(
