NFL Blitz Won't Have Late Hits

by Joe Juba on Nov 19, 2011 at 07:35 AM

One of the best parts of the NFL Blitz series was the brutal, after-the-whistle tackles. Though EA is resurrecting NFL Blitz in January, late hits are an aspect that isn't coming back with it.

At one point, late hits were in the game, which is in development at Madden studio EA Tiburon. However, the NFL told EA that the feature needed to be cut. Project lead Dave Ross told GamesRadar: “They understand that it’s not a simulation and they understand that it’s over-the-top, but at the end of the day they really felt like, with the messaging that they have, and with their stance on player health and safety, that it was something that was better left out of the game at this point.”

One feature doesn't usually make or break an entire game, and Blitz still looks poised to deliver plenty of arcade-style football action. For more on the game, check out Kato's preview. NFL Blitz is scheduled to release in January on XBLA and PSN for $15.
