Report: Killzone Follow-up In Development

Are you ready for more Killzone? According to an upcoming issue of Edge, the majority of Guerrilla Games' staff is working on the next Killzone installment, which the magazine is calling a "follow-up." In the issue, Guerrilla recruiter Adrian Smith suggested development on the new Killzone was well underway, saying "we've got to continue the Killzone franchise." Killzone 2 and 3's Senior Producer, Steven Ter Heide, is acting as "game director on the current Killzone project."

The issue hasn't hit newsstands quite yet but is reportedly showing up to subscribers today. Guerrilla Games also confirmed it's developing a new project that isn't related to Killzone, but no details have been revealed at this time.

  • Cool. I've never played KZ, but everyone I know saids the graphics rival Crysis and Battlefield on PC.
  • Killzone 3 was an amazing game, but the community slipped way too fast. Unfortunately my PS3 is broken, so I won't be able to play a sequel, though I have no doubt it will be awesome.
  • Killzone has never been an elite shooter. The multiplayer has always been unbalanced with a bunch of features stolen from other games. They need to take a more original approach.
  • I hope it's more like KZ2 and less KZ3. KZ3 was a terrible excuse of a game and was way too casual.
  • I love me some Killzone, been playing it alot since the first one came out on te ps2, i miss tho that you could use splitscreen multiplayer, that is just so much fun, bring that back please!

Anyhow, a new killzone cant be anything else but awesome!

  • I'm ready for another Killzone. I REALLY hope that Rico dies in this one because he get on my freaking nerves. Especially after what happens in 2. But I have to say, after the ending of 3, I'm surprised to hear about this. *sarcasm*
  • Im ready for more Killzone, imo kilzone's multiplayer is way underated. people stop playing to fast. =(. it's one of the best multiplayer experiences. imo of course.

  • sweet , 3 was awesome

  • KZ3 was a very good game that I enjoyed greatly. Can't wait to see what they have in store for us this time around.

  • I love this series so much. This makes me happy.

But, really Guerilla, if you guys just take the best features from Killzone 2 and 3 then mix them together you would have the perfect shooter. I feel like a lot of key fan favorite features from KZ@ were lost in translation into KZ3.

Honestly, even if that doesn't happen, I'll still support Guerilla because of how much I love Killzone,

  • Well DUH! Have you seen the ending? It screams Killzone 4. I started playing Killzone when I was looking for a new game at GameStop. I was searching through old PS2 games and found it. Hooked ever since.
  • I would like more, that's for sure.

  • They need naughty dog or someone who can make a good single player. That was the turn off for me in 3 the quality dropped so much it's sickening. Imo they focused too much on making it more open to a cod players playstyle. When it should of been it's own thing.

  • I don't trust GG anymore to make a good KZ. KZ3 was a dissapointment compared to KZ2.

Single player had tons of awesome cutscenes, but only a *** Michael Bay-esque story to go with it. The campaign was also way too short. The characters were one-dimesional, especially the Helghast. There is a serious lack of civilians and women, all we get to see are the faceless dehumanized soldiers, and the Nazi-like bosses that manipulate them from the top. I wanted to see their culture, their struggles and hardships, how they live their lives, and I thought I wuld get this since GG promised that more of Helghan culture would be explored. I was dissapointed. The story, aside from being one-dimensional, it reeks of laziness and conveniant plot devices; Rico JUST HAPPENS to overhear a transmission about where they are taking Sev, Sev JUST HAPPENS to hear the unit ID "Argus 2" from the Helghast soldiers he killed and uses that ID to get access to Stahl's facility, and they JUST HAPPEN to come in at the right time to save Narville and the other prisoners, and they JUST HAPPEN to discover a mobile factory to use to knock down the irradiated pretrucite towers. I must admit though, the campaign is REALLY FUN, I took the fun-factor for granted, until I played BF3's *** campaign. But I wish the multiplayer was more like BF3.

Multiplayer has been scaled down, stripped of features, and made severely unbalanced compared to Killzone 2. The menu interface is ugly as ***, and very stripped down, they took away the ability to create public games with custom settings, and to access them via server lists, they removed spawn grenades (when they could have just removed the smoke and set limits on where they could be deployed) and replaced them with easily campable TSAs. They made the melee an overpowered 1-hit kill, made the marksmen an overpowered undetectable, invisible, "1-hit kill on your toe" camper.

The only thing Killzone excells in now is visually amazing environments, and graphics. I'm not hopeful for KZ4, but I wish they could smehow combine the BF3 multiplayer and its features with Killzone's world and game modes (Imagine Rush combined with Operations). The balance, focus on teamwork (squad attack orders from squad leader, each class being designed in a way to help the team) and overwhelming amounts of weapons, customization, and interchangeable class abilities (instead of being only stuck with 2) would benefit KZ. I don't want them to try to copy CoD anymore.
  • Hopefully KZ4 has a deeper multiplayer package, cuz I could not get into the online in 3.

  • um, how about forget kz4 and just overhall kz3 online, there wasnt nearly enough guns, or maps. All I need is one massive map pack for free since it should have been in the game.

  • I'm not that excited by this.  I can see that Guerrilla Games doesn't really know what direction to take this series in gameplay-wise, and they certainly don't know what to do with the story and the universe.

If they had more focus and didn't try to make Killzone an all-things-to-all-people action game, this series could be incredible.

  • GG is incompentent as a game developer and will receive no more of my money.

  • KZ3 was an awesome game. Best shooter of the year in my opinion. Way better then resistance or battlefield. KZ4 can only be better. Can't wait.

  • It might be a collection, just like ICO, Uncharted, and god of war, right?
