Rampage Game Being Turned Into Film

by Jim Reilly on Nov 18, 2011 at 10:56 AM

Yes, you read that headline correctly. According to a report from the Hollywood Report, the classic monster arcade title Rampage is becoming a feature film.

John Rickard, who produced A Nightmare on Elm Street and Final Destination, is producing the film for New Line Cinema, and is reportedly meeting with writers to develop a story. Rampage was previously owned by Midway Games before Warner Bros. purchased the company in 2009.

"New Line isn’t usually in the tentpole business (the Lord of the Rings trilogy being the big exception) but the studio believes that technology has advanced enough that the possibility exists to make a smartly-budgeted monster movie in the vein and tone of Ghostbusters and Independence Day," the report states.

Those unfamiliar with Rampage should check out the Youtube clip below from the original 1986 arcade version.
