Will Wright Offers First Details On His Next Game

by Kyle Hilliard on Nov 16, 2011 at 05:54 AM

Will Wright, the man behind The Sims, and more recently Spore, offered up the first clues on what exactly his next game, HiveMind, will be. The term "game," though, seems almost inappropriate. What Wright is describing sounds more like a social network.

Wright has never been one to play within the standardized rules of game design, so to hear him describe something as a game, that doesn't really sound like a game, isn't all that surprising. HiveMind, according to Wright, is a system that essentially plays the player. Based on what players offer to HiveMind, the game will mold itself to become something entertaining to that player. “It blurs entertainment, lifestyle, and personal tools. With that data, the world and the opportunities for entertainment within it become more visible to you. If we can learn enough about the player, we can create games about their real life. How do we get you more engaged in reality rather than distract you from it?” said Wright in an interview with VentureBeat.

Wright also mentioned that the reason for today's announcement was to excite outside developers to get involved, and hopefully inspire others to join. He wants to bring in as many talented people as possible into HiveMind and eventually make it a large scale project with many different facets.
