The lights are on
Total U.S. game sales hit $1.08 billion for the month of October, according to new data released by retail tracking firm NPD. This represents a one percent increase in sales versus last October.
Xbox 360 came out on top for the month on the hardware side, seeing year-over-year sales increase by 20 percent. “On an average sales per week basis, October 2011 unit sales of 3DS, DS, PSP, Wii and Xbox 360 platforms all saw an increase over September 2011, which was a 5-week retail month (Oct '11 was a four-week retail month)," said NPD analyst Anita Frazier.
Below are the known hardware sales for the U.S. in October released by publishers so far:
Xbox 360 - 393,000PS3 - 250,000 (unconfirmed estimate) Wii - Nearly 250,0003DS - More than 250,000NDS - Nearly 180,000
For software, Battlefield 3 and Batman: Arkham City took the top spots for the month. NPD says Battlefield 3 sold just under 2 million units while Batman came in with with over 1.5 million units. Bethesda's long-in-development shooter Rage sold 550,000 units across three platforms in its debut month.
"New software releases performed very well this month," Frazier added. "Seven of the top 10 titles were new October releases, and the top 10 titles sold 23% more units than did the top 10 last October.
"Between Uncharted 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, and Zelda: Skyward Sword, I expect November to be a huge month for new physical retail sales.”

Oh yes, November is going to put up some nice numbers.
Glad to see Dark Souls up there.
Batman looks really cool, I must say. I generally hate videogames based off of super heros, this this one looks epic
I'm really glad to see a game like Dark Souls in the top ten. Not so glad to see Just Dance 3, but oh well...
Skyrim and Uncharted will show 'em how it's done.
I got both. Absolutely solid games. Gaming has been quite great this season.
those of you who haven't bought Batman Arkham City, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU, get up and go and buy it.
Next Up: Modern Warfare 3 and Skyrim :D
This, for October does not surprise me.
I guess the strike isn't affecting NBA 2K12 sales!
Batman...I get chills thinking about him after playing Arkham City.
I'm not really suprised. The xbox is usually the top selling system in the US pretty much always followed closely by the PS3 and Battlefield has a huge following. Plus Quite a few of those titles had a lot of people looking forwards to them! Still really impressive numbers though. :)
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 sucks and so does it's fanboys. It's a match made in heaven.
I really want to know why are people campaigning so dam hard like there running for president for a game to do so bad they must really suck at games and they need to stop because they really suck at campaigning altogether because it's not working try selling ice to Eskimos maybe that might work for YA
Arkham City totally deserved to sell well
Rage beat just dance 3????
I went to play my copy of Batman Arkham City today, only to find my memory swiped. Had probably over 30 hours put into the game...looked online for a reason and found this:
