The lights are on
World of Warcraft continues to see declines in subscribers.
Activision Blizzard reported yesterday that, since May, subscriptions have dropped from 11.4 million to 10.3 million players worldwide. Blizzard CEO Michael Morhaime said in a conference call the majority of the declines are coming from Eastern markets.
“Our development team is constantly analyzing the game, and we're continuing to explore ways that we can adjust the game to better satisfy both hard-core and casual players,” Morhaime said.
Last October, Blizzard reported subscriptions hit an all-time high of 12 million, but have seen a decline ever since. The company hopes to stop the bleeding with the release of its next expansion, Mists of Pandaria, expected to hit next year.[Source: Massively]
I guess it's time to dive back in after a long hiatus. I want to try out the new races.
2 DAYS FOR SKYRIM!! XD
Doesn't surprise me to be honest, there are a lot of games like Lord Of The Rings Online which is basically the same thing just much more polished and FREE to play, you can choose to subscribe or not.
The MMO market is growing rapidly, more games are showing up and free to play is a big trend now. WoW should learn from this.
So its a little less than 1 million subscribers gone from the eastern market, thats probably all banned chinese gold farmers -_- and you guys talking about "the end of wow" its just 800k subscribers. They still have a solid 10 MILLION people playing the game, how is that bad at all?
Im kind of expecting this, there is only so far that you can go in an MMO, I hope that Titan is something that will blow people away because we all know that Blizzard can definitely make an MMO
I'm not surprised. The game has been out for so long. These is only so much you can do to keep a game like that going before it gets old. I'm not saying it gets old for everyone. I myself got a good 3 years out of WoW.
I am proud to be a part of that 10 percent.
Sorry, Blizzard... Your cow has run dry.
I guess people aren't excited about kung fu pandas
WoW isn't F2P yet? bad move.
WoW is just an average MMO, to be honest if it didn't have the warcraft setting, it wouldn't have been popular to begin with.
Now it costs over $120 JUST for the game then you have to buy subscriptions, no wonder why WoW is in Decline especially with the F2P Boom of 2011
Yeah it could be that or the fact the The Old Republic is coming soon. Just saiyan.
you forgot to mention that MOST WERE IN CHINA. ITS THEM STOPPING GOLD SELLERS
Sometimes games get old, most people played this growing up, *** changes, old games look old (in the case of WOW it came out looking old), many stick around because they refuse to recommit that time sink somewhere else. More sad than anything.
Been playing WoW now since 05'. I have to admit that it has lost alot of what made the game so epic. So no wonder it is losing sells. Now as for this new expansion I think it's going to be a short lived novelty and then WoW will begain it's slow death.
I wish I was immortal so I could waste a few years playing this game. I love it but its just too much of a time sink for us mortals.
You can thank Cataclysm for getting boring too quickly and the announcement of the new panda expansion for the decline in subscribers. But still, 10 million is a ton of players so Blizzard shouldn't be worried at all. Keep expecting the subscription number to drop with the release of SW:ToR and Guild Wars 2.
I think most fans are still playing WoW because they're either holding on to their level 85's they've poured days or even months into, or they are just waiting for Diablo 3. I canceled my subscription a few days ago in preparation for Skyrim and then SW:ToR.
