World of Warcraft Subscriptions Drop 10 Percent

by Jim Reilly on Nov 09, 2011 at 04:20 AM

World of Warcraft continues to see declines in subscribers.

Activision Blizzard reported yesterday that, since May, subscriptions have dropped from 11.4 million to 10.3 million players worldwide. Blizzard CEO Michael Morhaime said in a conference call the majority of the declines are coming from Eastern markets.

“Our development team is constantly analyzing the game, and we're continuing to explore ways that we can adjust the game to better satisfy both hard-core and casual players,” Morhaime said.

Last October, Blizzard reported subscriptions hit an all-time high of 12 million, but have seen a decline ever since. The company hopes to stop the bleeding with the release of its next expansion, Mists of Pandaria, expected to hit next year.
