Wii U May Support Multiple Tablets

Nintendo has openly stated that the Wii U will only be able to support one tablet controller, but a new report says that the console should be able to support up to two.

Apparently, there are (or perhaps were) technical limitations preventing multiple tablets to be used, but Nintendo is nearing a solution that will allow at least two tablets to be used at once, a source told Develop. The source added that two is very likely the maximum number of multiple tablets the Wii U will ever be able to support.

The current Wii remotes will be compatible with the Wii U, which is how it seems multiplayer will typically be handled regardless of how many tablets the Wii U ultimately supports. The big question now is, how much will an additional Wii U tablet cost?

  • Still not buying one.
  • Mod
Well this is actually a pretty big deal in my opinion. I hope they find a way to make it work at an affordable price.
  • Good! What would the point have been to have a cool new console and controller but only one person could use the new controller? At least for multiplayer games we might not get stuck having to use the Wii remote.
  • I think it might be better to produce a secondary controller that is a WiiU controller without the screen, something to give your friends the joy of playing games on a real controller
  • I don't know if I want one. I didn't get the Wii, and if the Wii U is fully compatible with all Gamecube and Wii games, then that would mean a HUGE backlog of Nintendo exclusives to play that I hadn't before.
  • "Wii U" is still a stupid-sounding name.
  • This is good news, im not gonna get one, as im not into the concept that Nintendo is going for, i love playing the Wii, but thats at my friends house. but as i said, being able to have 2 tablets is really really nice!

  • It should be able to handle four tablet controllers, and it should come with two. That's the smart play. By the way, what's with all the whiney "nnnggggghhh still not gonna buy the Wii U anyway" posts? If that's all you have to say, your opinion must not be very valuable. Besides, it's flat-out stupid to just dismiss the system so far from release without actually knowing anything about it. What kind of person makes such an uneducated decision? A stupid person. There are a lot of bizarre issues with Wii U and Nintendo dropped the ball big time on the Wii, but they also did with the N64 which had almost no releases it's last two years on the market (just Zelda and Conker), but they still delivered the GameCube, which was a fantastic system the fanboys otherwise killed.
  • If this is true. I will be buying an extra tablet on day 1. Am the only person that saw that Zelda tech demo and never looked back. I'm gonna buy the *** outta the Wii U. Pikmin 3, here I come.
  • Such Great News I will be First in Line to Purchase the Wii U, Games and an Extra Controller!!! Thanks Nintendo
  • Who cares? I'll wait 5 years, when Wii U Zelda comes out. LOL.

  • Suits me fine. Most multiplayer games I deal with, I only do two-player anyway.

  • File this under "Who Cares"
  • Well, I still think the idea of having up to 4 available is nice, with that said getting together for a lan party isn't much of a big thing as it used to be with online gaming coming into it's own. Personally I'm fine as I will always be player 1. Another tablet might be nice, but yes, let's see what player 2 costs.
  • Good news, but I won't accept it as the truth until Nintendo confirms it.
  • All I know is, is that these tablets are going to be to expensive to care about.
  • "Multiple" seems like a very genouros (genorus?) word for two...
  • There is no circumstance in which I could see myself buying this new system. It's already a high price tag for what is already a sub par system. Then tack on what will undoubtedly be an exorbitant fee for an additional tablet (unmistakably the systems only thus-far unique feature) and you end up with a late and overpriced Wii HD in a world full of 1080p PS3s and Kinects. It seems like the luck that Nintendo has had in it's risky but bright ideas are unfortunately drying up.
  • Still don't care. That "controller" will not be fun holding for very long. Just a stupid idea imo. Not to mention why the heck not support two?
  • i remember when game informer ran an article about building the perfect controller. It had so many nice things. The wiiu controller is a step in that direction just not a bountiful leap. One thing bothers me though: why complain about all these nice things standard controllers dont have then backtrack and b*tch about what this DOES have? Also in that article they never mentioned anything about price.
