BioWare said it’s investigating a leak of the Mass Effect 3 story files after the beta unexpectedly went live over the weekend.

Russian fansite reportedly extracted the files from the beta and have since published them online. BioWare says that the script files do not reflect what will be in the final game, however.

“We are still investigating, but it appears that some internal story files have been leaked,” said Mass Effect producer Jesse Houston. “Even though the information in those files is out of date and does not reflect the final story experience, we urge fans not to read them if they want to experience the purest form of the story in Mass Effect 3.”

Mass Effect 3 is set to launch March 6, 2012.
