French Thieves Hijack Two Trucks Containing Copies Of Modern Warfare 3

by Matt Helgeson on Nov 07, 2011 at 06:30 AM

Life imitates art in France, where criminals pulled off a daring heist in which two trucks containing over $1 million worth of copies of Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 were stolen.

According to the French paper Le Parisien, the hijackers struck early Saturday morning in the suburbs outside of Paris. The incident, as many have noted, could have easily been pulled directly from one of the dramatic set pieces in the game itself. The first shipment was hijacked when the criminals struck a delivery truck with another vehicle, forcing it off the road. At that point, masked men armed with knives threw down tear gas canisters, forcing out the drivers, and then took off with the truck.

Later, another truck was forced to stop in the middle of a road by a vehicle blocking its path. Again, armed men -- this time packing handguns -- jumped out and seized the truck from the driver.

Both trucks contained copies of Modern Warfare 3. The total value of both shipments is estimated at €780,000, the equivalent of more than $1 million.

At press time, both groups of thieves remain at large.
