Obsidian Adapting A Leading Animation Franchise To Video Games

The studio behind Fallout: New Vegas, Neverwinter Nights 2, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II has a new venture on the hot stove.

In digging through the corporate profile of Digital Development Management, a game-centric talent agency, Joystiq stumbled on some interesting information regarding Obsidian's current project. In the "exclusive clients" section of the document, DDM says Obsidian is working on an "unannounced project for [a] leading animation franchise."

When I hear "leading animation franchise," I think The Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, Spongebob Squarepants, and South Park. Each of these properties have been licensed for video games in the past. Agencies often have much looser definitions of terms like "leading," so don't be surprised if it's something else entirely.

I wouldn't mind seeing someone take another crack at an Adult Swim adaptation The Venture Bros. and Metalocalypse in particular would be great games. What animated franchise would you like to see make the jump to interactive entertainment?

  • Please be spongebob. BEST. GAME. SERIES. EV. ER.
  • Wait, Obsidian did KOTOR 2? It all makes sense now
  • DuckTales!!
  • Ohh keep on working

  • I could totally go for a Venture Bros. game. Customizing your own your own Hero or Villain that is a member of the Guild of Calamitous Intent.
  • I would say THUNDER THUNDER THUNDERCATS HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! It would seem like the perfect occasion with the recent reboot. But make it about the classic thunder cats.
  • I'd LOVE to see a good Metalocalypse game. They could make it a fusion of Rock Band and Brutal Legend. Add Pickles' humor and you've got one hell of a game.
  • Honestly something like Fooly Cooly, One Piece, Samurai Jack, The Misadventures of Flapjack, Adventure Time, or even half of Adult Swim's lineup would be fantastic material for video games. I realize One Piece and Samurai Jack both have games but to me either one really did the series justice. As for ones you've mentioned The Simpsons are pretty good as far as video games, South Park has it's own thing going on, and Family Guy while funny (especially in the older episodes) I can't honestly being great material for a game. Hopefully whatever it is, they make it 10x better then Aplha Protocol.
  • A Venture Bros. game would be awesome. I think it's going to turn out to be Adventure Time tough, because the guy who created the show wanted to make a game of it in the style of Oblivion. Betheshda made Oblivion, Bethesda and Obsidian worked together on New Vegas. It's just an idea, I don't know for certain.
  • It could be Adventure Time.
  • they should do another Fallout game
  • Someone should make a game based on Pokemon...nah, that'd never sell. Jokes aside, though. I'd like to play a good Avatar Airbender game.
  • Obsidian's a good dev studio, if F:NV would've been more polished, I think it would've easily been in the running for GOTY, hope they work out the kinks in this game. And I hope to god it's not an anime series. No f*cking thank you.
  • "Adventure Time"! The creator said he would love to see an Oblivion style game set in the world.
  • My Little Pony Game... oh no what have I done!?!?!
  • I'd be up for either a proper Avatar: The Last Airbender game (because honestly, there's no reason those games have sucked in the past) or an Adventure Time game.
  • VENTURE BROS.

  • I have to do it. What time is it?
  • Futurama!
  • PLEASE BE ADVENTURE TIME!!!!!
