Battlefield 3 Ships 10 Million Units

EA must be pleased with how Battlefield 3 is doing so far. The company confirmed on its latest earnings call the game shipped 10 million units in its first week.

EA did not provide sell-through numbers for the title, only saying they were "strong." It should be noted that "shipped' means sold to retail, not sold to customers. However, CEO John Riccitiello said retailers are already placing re-orders for Battlefield 3.

This marks the biggest day-one launch in the company's history, nearly doubling last year's Medal of Honor.

Battlefield 3 launches in Europe today.

  • Shipped 10 million units - but they can't keep the servers up for more than a few hours at a time, and ther Battlelog forums are alive with "cannot connect" issues. This has plagued a number of EA games in the past. The game itself is great, Go DICE! Booooooooo EA!
  • Again, who cares about "shipped" numbers? I'd rather see "sold" numbers. Sure they shipped 10m, but what if 5m+ are in stock rooms and on shelves? Shipped means nothing. Good game though, can't wait for the issues to be fixed though.
  • Woah doggy!

  • Big numbers, and they need them when they spent 100 million alone on marketing.
  • Why no sales numbers? They know what they are. Freaking Activision comes out with them the next day for every COD franchise like it were a religion or something.
  • Its to bad that MW3 will out-sell BF3. HAHA
  • I would imagine by next week once the game has been released and sold today in Europe they should have the numbers. From the amount of people I've seen on Xbox alone they look like they are doing just fine.

  • I really like the story telling for the single-player, but the gameplay for it was down right bad. Go from point A to B and don't forget to follow this guy is getting real old real fast. The only thing that keep me going was to find out what happens at the end. Multiplayer is Battlefields gold. That alone is the reason to pick it up. Glad to see they ship 10 Million, but would like to see how much they sold on day one.
  • I'm torn... I think this will have to wait. Skyrim, you have my life.
  • We all know to MW3 will sell more than BF3 but I think that the objective of EA have been accomplished "take a big portion of the FPS pie". Congrats EA.
  • I'm sure EA IS pleased, but I can't say the BF Community is for sure right now. When you can actually play the game for 30 minutes, it's one of the best I've ever played but that's been rare as of late. I hope they fix the issues, it's good to hear that the game is selling strongly, but I'd like to be able to play it for hours without getting kicked....Or be able to be in a squad with my friends without one or two of us on the other team every other game.
  • And I thought Arkham City's numbers were big...O.O

  • those ten million will be all gone by the end of november. i can count on it. Ea should be pretty content with themselves with the immense progress they're making and will be making with this highly-decorated elite first person shooter, Battlefield 3.
  • Tweak the servers, so they run efficiently already!! Doesn't matter how many you sell, if you can't play online for more than a half hour, what's the point? Great game btw. Just fix the issues for online gaming, and this game will shine on it's own.
  • Wow! Game sales have to way up this year. I mean with Gears 3 sales, Batman A/C sales, Uncharted 3 sales, now Battlefield 3, There is still MW3, Skyrim, and Zelda to go. Anyone else remember a time when this many games were selling so well?
  • Yeah give me sales numbers, not shipped.  Regardless I am loving the game.  I have had no trouble playing the game at all.

  • This is good for them, but the only stat that matters is actual sales. There is nothing to indicate how many stores are re-ordering, nor how many they had initially purchased. So, until actual sales numbers are released, I'll just say good for them and hope they fix their servers that have been constantly having problems. On a side note, I'm definitely interested to see where the final metacritic score ends up for this game. The PC is sitting at a 91, while the PS3 and 360 versions are at an 85 and 83, respectively.
  • Hm im still gonna wait a little bit on this one. Probably get it after MW3

  • Mod
I love Battlefield and I support EA. But brag while you can. World War 3 is in 2 weeks.
  • love my copy of battlefield. i wont be buying mw3 till after it is prolly 20 bucks used at gamestop.
