UPDATE: Sony Pictures Making Assassin's Creed Movie

by Matthew Kato on Oct 24, 2011 at 07:25 AM

UPDATE: Some recent website domain registrations make the likelihood of an Assassin's Creed movie deal almost certain.

The folks over at Fusible have unearthed some further evidence that Assassin's Creed is on track for a film treatment in the coming years.

Several distinct domain names were registered by Sony on October 20th, including:

assassins-creed-movie.com
assassins-creed.net
assassins-creedmovie.com
assassinscreed-film.com
assassinscreed-film.net
assassinscreed-movie.com
assassinscreed-movie.net
assassinscreed-thefilm.com
assassinscreed-thefilm.net
assassinscreed-themovie.com
assassinscreed-themovie.net
assassinscreedfilm.com
assassinscreedfilm.net
assassinscreedthefilm.com
assassinscreedthefilm.net
assassinscreedthemovie.net

If Sony isn't making an Assassin's Creed movie, they're going to an awful lot of trouble to convince people otherwise. Nonetheless, it's worth noting that neither Sony nor Ubisoft have confirmed the deal.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Ubisoft's motion picture division has high hopes for taking its video game properties to the big screen, and an Assassin's Creed movie is apparently a hot commodity.

Variety reports that Sony Pictures is the last-man standing of a fierce bidding war for the rights to the series' movie franchise. The movie industry paper says that Universal and other studios were also very interested in acquiring the rights. No specifics of the deal are known, and this is just the first step of many in bringing Assassin's Creed to theaters.

Ubisoft Motion Pictures is not only shopping the game company's franchises, but also intent on maintaining a strong creative voice for its projects.
