The lights are on
When Activision first announced Sledgehammer Games, a new studio formed by Dead Space development heads Michael Condry and Glen Schofield, the team was to develop a third-person action Call of Duty title. But after the fallout from the Infinity Ward scuffle last year, Activision needed help finishing Modern Warfare 3.
That means the planned action title is now likely on the chopping block.
“We'll probably cancel it,” Schofield told CVG in an interview. “They gave us the choice of: do you want to work on Modern Warfare 3, or do you want to continue working on this? And we really liked that. We liked what we were doing. It third person, probably set at a time that might have niched it too much. I bet that if we had kept going, within a month or two I probably would have switched the time period, but kept the gameplay. It had some really cool stuff.”
When asked wether or not Sledgehammer will work on its own project after Modern Warfare 3 ships this fall, Schofield said future plans are not concrete just yet.
“I think the best thing that could happen for Activision would be for us to both go off and make our own game. Whether that's a Call of Duty game or not is up in the air. I plan to continue working on Call of Duty.”
Wow people already claiming the 3rd person action spin-off the same ***. Lmao the cod hate has gotten out of hand imo.
Surprised they would scrap what ever work they had done on it. Especially since Activision feels CoD prints money. Oh well it probably would not have been that riveting anyway.
NO MORE WAYS TO RIP OFF MONEY?
What a shame. Everyone knows that we needed another Call of Duty game.
had no idea one was even coming out
Please make something else besides a shooter. I feel like that's the only thing coming out of Activision these days...I can't be the only one tired of ANY kind of shooter. :/
call of duty + trying something new????? NONSENSE!!!!
I actually would have liked to see this.
I'm sure the project won't get scrubbed, just pushed back for a time. Likely into the launch window of the next generation console, if I had to wager a guess.
Bit of a bummer. I wanted to see how it would turn out as the Xbox doesn't have SOCOM.
Maybe they could just make 3rd person an option for campaign in MW4?
I'm actually kind of sad about this. It would have been nice to get a CoD with some drastically new gameplay.
I feel this was a bad decision. The CoD franchise needs something new, and a third person Sci Fi game would be just the cure. Too bad, though....
I just hope they come back to it. Seeing the crap Treyarch is putting out now just makes me sick... I hope West and Zampella are working on something good at EA just to piss off Activision of their stupid decision to fire them.
