Rockstar Marking GTA III's Anniversary With iOS, Android Releases And Claude Figure

by Jeff Cork on Oct 13, 2011 at 03:47 AM

Here's another installment of "Things to Make You Feel Old." Ten years ago this month, Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto III. After you pop your dentures back in, see how the studio plans to commemorate the milestone.

First, Rockstar is releasing the game on the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S, as well as a variety of Android devices.* GTA III brought sandbox games to the masses and ushered in a host of imitators. It's nice to see it land on contemporary hardware, even if it means players will have to slide their fingers on glass instead of gripping a PS2 controller. It's playable at New York Comic-Con, too, so check it out at Rockstar's booth if you're in the area. Otherwise, you can wait for its fall release.

If the idea of playing a game like that without buttons seems blasphemous, you can still get in on the festivities. Rockstar is releasing a limited-edition action figure modeled on GTA III's antihero, Claude. The 1:6 scale figure was created in collaboration with Sideshow Collectables, and is available for $149.99 on Rockstar's online store. It says all of Claude's memorable catch-phrases, like "..." and "...." Because Claude didn't talk. Get it? Never mind.

Rockstar is also giving away three of the figures through its Social Club, but you'll have to enter by October 16.

Happy sort-of birthday, GTA III!
