Online Pass Unlocks Catwoman in Batman: Arkham City

Those who purchase used copies of Batman: Arkham City won't be able to play the single-player portions of the game containing Catwoman.

Every new copy of the game will include the pass, but buying used means you'll have to pay publisher Warner Bros. 800 Microsoft Points or $9.99.  "Catwoman is a unique character with her own story, moves, and weapons. Unlock Catwoman by redeeming the 1st purchaser included in the game case or by visiting Xbox Live Marketplace," reads Arkham City's title screen. Warner Bros. insists, however, the Catwoman section "is not required to complete the game," Eurogamer reports.

If you don't unlock Catwoman she will still appear in the game, but her four, story-based missions will not be playable. Using the code also unlocks Catwoman as a playable character in the game's challenge mode.

Batman: Arkham City is due out on Tuesday, October 18.

  • wow...this is how it ends.
  • Well, I'm getting it on Tuesday, pre-ordered, no too big of a deal. This is... the trend of the industry.
  • Huh. That's a good idea actually.
  • This is a really good direction that game companies are going. I'm really glad they're doing this. There really are no downsides.
  • Ok, I can somewhat understand the reasoning behind barring multiplayer stuff if someone buys a used game, but taking away single player story missions for buying used is ridiculous.
  • *sigh*...Nah. I'll wait till I play for myself.

  • $9.99 for 4 story-based missions LOL
  • thats stupid why would you advertise the charictor like that and make it DLC its times like this that the gaming industry frustrates the hell out of me
  • boooooo! i am all for giving a bonus to buying a game new, but come on, it seems a little late in the game to throw a wrench in the gears announcement like this, especially after all the coverage they have given to Catwoman as a playable character. this feels cheap to me.

  • :O
  • What the hell? One of the biggest advertising thees for Arkham City was that you could play as Catwoman, and now people who don't buy the game new won't be able to play as her unless they pay? Sell outs, man.
  • Brilliant.
  • Meh... Sexy Cat Lady or A couple bucks off? I'm going sexy cat lady!

  • Mega lame

  • What the ***?

    No.

  • This is a very meta moment in video games. Not willing to pay upfront? No problem, Catwoman will ransom herself for 800 microsoft air rupees.
  • Meh. I'll just wait for the inevitable GOTY edition for this game with everything packaged on the disk. THEN I'll buy it used.
  • What about people with no internet connection and cant use this code? They cant even play the single player game they paid for?
  • Okay i understand why they do this and i love Arkham City but i get barring multiplayer but singleplayer content is down right outrageous.........that being said i hope companies dont do this and im still looking forward too this game!!

  • Mkay, I preordered the game, and I think this is getting a tad ridiculous. Locking out multiplayer features is annoying, but acceptable. Core features are another matter entirely. You should be getting the product you payed for regardless of whether its used or not.
