Microsoft Acquires Twisted Pixel

It turns out that gamers weren't the only fans of Twisted Pixel. The studio behind games including The Maw, 'Splosion Man, and The Gunstringer has been scooped up by Microsoft Studios, joining other devs including Lionhead and Rare.

“Twisted Pixel has an incredible track record of innovative, critically acclaimed, and most importantly, fun, games,” said Phil Spencer, corporate vice president of Microsoft Studios. “Microsoft Studios is home to cutting-edge entertainment experiences, and the incredible creativity of the Twisted Pixel team will help drive further innovation around Kinect and Xbox Live.”

“It is really exciting for us to solidify our long-standing relationship with Microsoft Studios, who we consider to be the leader in digital distribution and creating new innovations in gaming like Xbox Live and Kinect,” said Michael Wilford, co-founder and CEO of Twisted Pixel. “As part of the family of Microsoft Studios we look forward to bringing even bigger and richer experiences to Xbox and Twisted Pixel fans around the world.”

  • Awesome, Microsoft needs some new good exclusive IPs. This also brings me hope for a Gunstringer 2: Gunstringerier.
  • Awesome, awesome, awesome. I've loved every single game Twisted Pixel has made, and hopefully having a big dollar company backing them up will only make their games better.
  • The moment they stopped developing for PC I lost all interest in them. I hope they continue doing well, but it's a shame that they only made 1 game for PC as well as the 360, and now that Microsoft has bought them out, it's even more unlikely that they return to PC.
  • I cant wait to see what Twisted Pixel can do with a big publisher behind them.

  • Nice! Im glad Twisted Pixel got a good home. Cant wait to see what they do next.

  • This is exciting stuff, I realize it means I will never get their fantastic games on PS3, but for me it is just another reason to get a 360 this holiday season. And truthfully outside of cost, I see nothing wrong with that.
  • This is great as long as they do not end up like Rare after Microsoft bought them

  • I absolutely loved 'Splosion Man, and I hear that Gunstringer is pretty good. I'm really looking forward to whatever Twisted Pixel does next.

  • well twisted pixel just screwed themselves.
  • Yay :D

  • Another publisher that will be confined to one system (unless they were already?). With the reputation that Microsoft is gaining from their hard handed tactics with other game devs I wonder if they'll last? Sucks to be them.
  • Good for them! I have enjoyed nearly everything from these guys except for Comic Jumper. It just wasn't what I'd hoped for really. I'd like to check out Gunstringer too if and when I get a Kinect. I kinda wish they'd do another Maw game. I loved that and it's what hooked me.

  • NO!!!

I really need to get an XBOX.

  • A great developer, glad to see this happen.

  • Maybe they can have them make a new game with one of the IPs M$ is hoarding, but most likely Twisted Pixel will end up like Rare making sh!ty Kinect games.

  • “Twisted Pixel has an incredible track record of innovative, critically acclaimed, and most importantly, fun, games,” ....isn't that what Rare used to be?

  • Somehow a completely unsurprising headline. Good for Twisted Pixel, hopefully this leads to more great works from them.

  • Hopefully this goes better than the Rare thing.

  • This is awesome news! Twisted Pixel originated from my hometown so I hope these guys continue to have nothing but success!

  • Great, welcome to the Xbox family .
