Kojima Speaks On Future Of Metal Gear

by Matt Miller on Oct 10, 2011 at 09:30 AM

In a recent interview at the University of Southern California, and broadcast over at Game Trailers, Hideo Kojima had some interesting things to say about the future of his beloved franchise.

Kojima speaks about the themes behind the Metal Gear games, particularly about his decision to include nuclear proliferation as a central concept within the game. Kojima also discusses his approach to game design, and the difference between a good game designer and a great one.

Of most interest to many Metal Gear fans, Kojima talks about the future of the franchise, and his desire to see the series continue for many years. "I just want to say that as long as there are fans who want Metal Gear Solid, as a producer, I will always want to still make them and I want the series to continue," Kojima says. "So even after I die, I still would love to have the Metal Gear Solid series continue."

He also speaks about the challenge he's faced in handing the series off to new creators. "For some reason it just never really works out. And, you know, I end up having to step in again to take charge and kind of fix things here and there, and just get sucked back in, unfortunately."

As for Metal Gear Solid: Rising? Kojima claims he's trying to remain hands off. We'll see if that policy continues as development on the anticipated game continues.
