[Updated] Playable Doom (and Quake!) Levels Hidden In id's Rage

[Update]

Thanks to GI readers Garrett, Jake Hofmann, and Tyler, we now know that id's other major franchise, Quake, is also seen in a Rage Easter egg

[Original Story]

Yesterday, it was revealed that there was a small Wolfenstein Easter egg in id Software's latest shooter Rage. Now, it appears that another -- even more iconic -- classic id franchise is also represented in classic form in Rage.

There's actually a playable level of Doom in Rage; the video posted below shows you how to unlock it (via a series of computer terminals in the game). You can also collect a Doom marine bobblehead while you're there. Anyway, it's a neat little extra to an already epic title.

  • thats awesome...even though it came out before I was born, I love Doom so much, and really owe it to that game for alot of the games I play today.

  • Next up: Playable Rage 2 inside of Rage.
  • Oh, id, take my future children. And my money. Take my future children wrapped in money.
  • Never forget your roots. Lesson of the century video game wise.I never played wolfenstein or doom because I was sonic and mario guy so this is a cool way to play it I guess. Now I'm waiting for a quake easter egg and more developers should do this.
  • thios is cool but im selling the game back to game stop today only took me 8 hours to beat. it has a lack of story and ends abruptly. multiplayer also blows and once you finsh the game you cant freeroam the wasteland. you have to start a new game to get back into the wasteland. flat out it sucks balls and i wish i would have kept gears 3
  • That Doom Space Marine bobblehead is on the dash of the buggy you get picked up in at the start of the game. Figured you'd be able to find it somewhere, like the Vault Boy bobblehead.

  • i was hoping the easter egg would be a full playable mission full of enemies... oh well great easter egg nonetheless haha

  • "Playable Doom level" got my hopes up. I was thinking there was going to be a secret entrance you could take where you would actually be able to play through a whole level of Doom. This easter egg is still pretty cool though
  • i love when game companies do things like this.  it would of been really cool if they had a custom doom and wolfenstein level hidden in it with monsters to shoot and all that.

  • there's a quake easter egg too!
  • that breathing sounds annoying

  • After the Wolfenstein secret revealed yesterday I had my fingers crossed for more easter eggs like this.   :)

  • Theirs Fallout EE as well.  I found a Vaultboy bobblehead on the Mayor desk at Wellspring

  • I wouldn't call this a "playable" level. It's no different than the Wolfenstein room. It's just an environment to run around in. Cool easter egg none-the-less.
  • If i weren't busy preparing myself for skyrim, I'd be all over this game.
  • These easter eggs are awesome :D

  • That's awesome.

  • that is fantastic

  • Tomorrow, there will be Quake!
  • thats just awesome ...  i remember playing doom when i was 6 er 7 on my uncles pc back when and loving it ..even tho i don't think i ever got past the 1st area lol  its great to see new games giving there history its due
