NHL 12 Predicts Pens Take Stanley Cup

by Matthew Kato on Oct 05, 2011 at 05:37 AM

Still no luck for the Washington Capitals... Developer EA Canada has used NHL 12 to sim the upcoming season, putting the Pens on top.

Although EA Sports incorrectly predicted that the Canucks would claim the Cup last year via NHL 11, EA's pretty confident Sidney Crosby will emerge from his concussion-induced fog in order to lead the Penguins to another title. The Pens will apparently beat sixth seed Tampa bay in a seven-game conference finals series before besting Chicago in six to win the Stanley Cup.

Other highlights from the simulation include:

  • Despite not winning the championship, Capitals' captain Alex Ovechkin wins the Hart and Art Ross trophies
  • Flyers' rookie Brayden Schenn wins the Calder
  • Rangers' goalie Henrik Lundqvist takes home the Vezina with 41 wins and nine shutouts
  • 2010 Stanley Cup winners Boston get taken out in the first round of the playoffs by the now Mike Richards/Jeff Carter-less Flyers
  • The playoff-starved Maple Leafs and Wild return to the post-season only to get snuffed out by Washington and Vancouver, respectively.
  • Despite the euphoria of its new surroundings, the Winnipeg Jets finish a distant 11th in the East
