Nippon Ichi Developing Open World Action-RPG For PS3

by Phil Kollar on Sep 27, 2011 at 11:30 AM

Nippon Ichi may be best-known for its long string of solid turn-based strategy RPGs, including the Disgaea series, Phantom Brave, and more. The next PlayStation 3 game from this developer will be breaking outside of that comfort zone a bit, though.

The new game, titled The Witch and the Hundred Cavalrymen, was revealed in the Japanese magazine Dengeki PlayStation (by way of Siliconera). It's described as a "open world dark fantasy action RPG," and it seems to be heavily inspired by Western RPGs. It will feature a seamless open world with no loading, sandbox gameplay, the choice between siding with good or evil, and NPCs whose reaction to the main character changes depending on your actions.

Grahpics are being done by Disgaea designer Takehito Harada, although Nippin Ichi says the game will be more brutal than what they normally do. The Witch and the Hundred Cavalrymen will be out in spring 2012 in Japan. No word yet on whether it will make its way to North America, but we'll keep you posted.
