Downloadable Brawler Shank Gets A Sequel In Early 2012

by Phil Kollar on Sep 27, 2011 at 12:50 PM

The violent, 2D action game Shank came out on various download services a little over a year ago to fairly strong buzz -- our reviewer, Matt Miller, liked it quite a bit. Now EA and developer Klei Entertainment have revealed Shank 2, an equally bloody sequel planned for early 2012.

As with the original game, Shank 2 will be available on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and PC. The game will once again follow the titular Shank, a one-time mob hitman who has to return to a life of violence to protect the people he loves. The sequel will also introduce a new survival co-op mode.

Klei Entertainment founder Jamie Cheng described the developer's approach to the sequel:

"Creatively, Shank still has a lot to give. We took the feedback from the community and ran with it, putting our own flavor on every change. For Shank 2, we literally took apart the game and put it back together to push the envelope in combat mechanics, visuals, and 2D animation in games."

Personally, I'm always excited to see downloadable titles perform well enough to earn a sequel. Anyone else excited to get back to the intense stabbing and shooting action of Shank?
