Angry Birds Developer Interested In Becoming A Publisher

by Kyle Hilliard on Sep 21, 2011 at 09:11 AM

Angry Birds developer Rovio isn't ready to make an official announcement, but it is strongly hinting at getting into the publishing side of video games.

In an interview with Develop, Rovio executive Peter Vesterbacka stated that, "We have some plans for this area, but [we're] not ready to announce yet. If we do something in the publishing area, you can expect it to be a bit different."

Rovio seems interested in becoming a publishing label specifically for independent game studios.

If any mobile games studio were to break out into the publishing world, Rovio would certainly the one to do it. It has created an incredibly profitable and recognizable brand with Angry Birds, and it is in a position where it would definitely be able to help get smaller games get up and running.
