Zynga Announces Mafia Wars 2

by Jeff Marchiafava on Sep 20, 2011 at 08:41 AM

Today Zynga announced its newest game, Mafia Wars 2, which promises to have Facebook users committing all sorts of nefarious digital crimes against their family and friends.

According to the press release, Mafia Wars 2's tagline is "Being bad never felt so good," which fits right in with the series' glorification of organized crime. I could pretend to be offended by the concept, but really the series' biggest crime is its shameless attempts at getting you to rope your friends into the game and spend real money on worthless in-game items. That, and the fact that it doesn't have any actual gaming elements beyond that of Farmville -- Zynga's other famous Facebook joint.

If there's anything in today's Mafia Wars 2's announcement to get excited about, it's Zynga's passing mention that the game will introduce a "vast 3D world." Could Mafia Wars 2 contain some real gameplay elements? Perhaps some level of Sim City-style city building? We'll have to wait to find out, but regardless, you're probably going to want to turn off the "notify your friends" messages when Mafia Wars 2 launches...provided that's an offer you can refuse.
